February 21, 2017. Mango Tequila Sunrise Cocktail. Next Monday is National Margarita Day. This such an important event that my office is shut for the day. Alright, the official reason for the closure is to mark Presidents’ Day, but I think that Margarita Day is a good reason to celebrate. California Girl comments: I would poke fun of The Brit for his…. The Scofflaw Cocktail -

January 4, 2017. At the start of the third decade of the twentieth century, the US enacted Prohibition. This made it illegal to manufacture, transport, or sell alcohol. There were some exceptions; wine could be made for Communion and doctors could prescribe booze for medicinal purposes. Winston Churchill took advantage of this latter exception when he visited the US. The first step to making a good Scofflaw cocktail is a homemade grenadine. 2 cups of pomegranate juice. 2 cups of sugar. Store in the fridge.

Solbar at Solage Resort. After going to a lovely tasting at Chateau Montelena, The Brit and I needed lunch. January 9, 2017. Most of the classic cocktails were created in the US; one notable exception is the Gin and Tonic, a drink with its origins in the British Empire. Tonic water contains quinine, a substance that was used to prevent malaria. The bitterness of the quinine was unpleasant and British officers serving in India would add sugar and gin to make consumption palatable and the Gin and Tonic was born. California Girl Comments: There is a story behind the Silent Pool Mist. When I was in London in N...

Sonoma Aperitif, Petaluma, CA. Sonoma Aperitif, Petaluma, CA. January 2, 2017. Sonoma Aperitif is located just outside of Petaluma, on the border of Penngrove. They are located in an old, character laden building. The inside of which has a bar and is decorated like a living room, with striking artwork on the walls. The Vin de Noir was made with green walnuts that along with herbs were submerged in Sangiovese. The result was a deep complex drink that would, I think, make an excellent Black Manhattan.

August Briggs Tasting Room, Calistoga, CA. On a recent trip to the Northern end of Napa Valley, I dropped into August Briggs Tasting Room in downtown Calistoga. Bill’s Restaurant, Windsor, UK. Bill’s Restaurant, Windsor, UK. January 5, 2017. When we lived in the UK our home was about twenty minutes from the beautiful town of Windsor. It is famous as the Queen of England has a castle there. We spent many Sundays visiting the town, shopping, and dining. Not only is Windsor historical with its amazing architecture and location on the Thames river but it is also a real place where people spend time to eat and drink. The Brit’s Shepherds pie got moans of deligh...
