One man's journey . Life in the Village and beyond, based around the interests of my life. Life in the Village and beyond, based around the interests of my life. Sunset at Telegraph Point. Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Good friends of ours wanted a new letterbox - nothing fancy - just a functioning letter box. They even provided a fully detailed engineer's drawing. Which I have misplaced, but will post here when found). Made from recycled timbers sourced from far and wide. Happy shavings to all. Not in Austral...

Thursday, June 4, 2015. Making A Carry Case For a Large Format Camera Part 1. Large format cameras are something of an anachronism in these days of high definition digital imaging, however they have their devotees and disciples. They are big, cumbersome and require lots of bits and pieces - as well as a sturdy tripod.

The Village Woodworker: Where Do You Get Your Lumber?

http://thevillagewoodworker.blogspot.com/2014/11/where-do-you-get-your-lumber.html

One man's journey . Life in the Village and beyond, based around the interests of my life. Life in the Village and beyond, based around the interests of my life. Sunset at Telegraph Point. Monday, November 17, 2014. Where Do You Get Your Lumber? A question that we all have to address as woodworkers is one of supply. Where do we source our timber? This is a question that I am often asked, and as recently as this morning I fielded a telephone call specifically on this topic. And this hosts a working steam ...

Wool n Wood is a shared Blog for Sues Crafts and Rays Wood and Steel projects. Sue has been knitting for many years and took on the crafts of spinning, weaving, dyeing and felting. Ray has always been into wood and steel and making and repairing things. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. A 4 jaw Wood Chuck Modification. The chuck had a 3/4" 19mm bore - spindle thread which wouldn't fit any lathe I had, I had arranged to have it drilled and tapped to 1"x10 to fit the Jet mini spindle but Tim moved to greener pastures.

Woodworking by Hand: Dovetail Plane

http://woodworkingbyhand2.blogspot.com/2012/07/dovetail-plane_27.html

Friday, July 27, 2012. Some time ago I purchased a German old plane set, all in good conditions, except one clearly lacking of some pieces. It had two holes on the upper side as well as two others on the lateral face. Someone added a self-made metal fence; a nicker for cutting cross grain and the angled sole. Indicated it as a dovetail plane. So I wrote to Wolfgang Jordan, author of the excellent website. Http:/ www.holzwerken.de/. Grathobel is the German translation of dovetail plane. Of course were ver...

Woodworking by Hand: A Female For The Dovetail Plane

http://woodworkingbyhand2.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-female-for-dovetail-plane.html

Friday, August 10, 2012. A Female For The Dovetail Plane. In the sliding dovetail joint the two elements, male and female slide one into another. The resulting joint is very strong and it is most used when vertical and horizontal parts have to offer more resistance to the traction (the shelves in a bookcase, for example). The traditional way for this joint needs three tools: saw, chisel and router plane. Ari-Kake-Shakuri-Kanna for this purpose, a grooving plane needing a separate angled fence for its job.

Woodworking by Hand: Buying USA Stanley Planes

Saturday, January 21, 2012. Buying USA Stanley Planes. Pdf file can be download here:. Https:/ app.box.com/s/9y415ok5h83c5p73x9x6. A few years ago I began to buy my first Stanley planes on the net and I won my first auction for a strange red plane, paying it only $10. My skills and knowledge about planes were limited, so I asked a friend of mine for receiving more information about. For example, I find the frog adjusting screw useful only for smoothing planes in which a frequent mouth adjustment is desir...

Saturday, December 13, 2014. Johnny, sleep like a god tonight! A couple of months ago has arrived in our family Johnny, a four months old Beagle. Recycled wood and pine wood paneling (2 cm thick) for sides and roof. Simple joinery by lap joints, some brass screws and dowels make this project really easy to realize. Here he is, sh...

Woodworking by Hand: Pinch dogs

http://woodworkingbyhand2.blogspot.com/2015/01/pinch-dogs.html

Friday, January 16, 2015. The dark side are the holes they leave on the wood, so can be better used on surfaces not shown or those to be painted. The pinch dogs are available on online sites and their price is around 3-4 $ each (depending on dimensions). So, I tried to build some home made pinch dog, using iron fence staples I took (for free) at my hardware store. Differently from pinch dogs these nails had not parallel sides, but they work. A dozen of home made pinch dogs required half an hour ca. When ...

Woodworking by Hand: Scrub Plane

http://woodworkingbyhand2.blogspot.com/2015/03/scrub-plane.html

Monday, March 9, 2015. Some years ago I found several 34 mm plane blades as new old stock. Too many large for a jack or smoother plane, perfect for making scrub planes (just I had to round the cutting edge). This is a four pieces plane (two lateral, two central). The woods are beech for the body and wild olive (from Puglia, Italy) for the sole. March 10, 2015 at 3:48 AM. This looks great, is olive wood a common choice for plane soles? March 10, 2015 at 10:40 AM. March 10, 2015 at 9:12 PM.
