Saturday, 10 July 2010. Yarr I found me a couple of likely shipmates to seek ol Blackbeards treasure. We set out with a map on the high seas in search of dubloons and pieces of eight. the Woodland Journey: Bough Down

http://thewoodlandjourney.blogspot.com/2011/01/bough-down.html

Can't see the wood for the trees. Tuesday, 4 January 2011. What with the snowy weather and end of year festivities I haven't been down to the wood for a while. Happily it seemed to get through the recent snow without any noticeable damage. There was a large oak bough that had come down before the cold weather set in, which needed sorting out so I set it about it with the chainsaw. When I starting ringing it up I could see the amazingly dark colour of the heartwood. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

the Woodland Journey: Owl Box Refurbishment

http://thewoodlandjourney.blogspot.com/2011/01/owl-box-refurbishment.html

Can't see the wood for the trees. Wednesday, 12 January 2011. Apparently they are docile creatures despite their reputation but might become aggressive if you disturb their nests and have a nasty sting. Hornets are brown and yellow rather than the black/yellow wasps that can be annoying in the garden in summer. Particularly pub gardens! I also discovered a very large dead hornet, which I assume is the old queen. I've read that the queens only last one season and new ones will have left this nest to o...

the Woodland Journey: Winch Work

http://thewoodlandjourney.blogspot.com/2010/11/winch-work.html

Can't see the wood for the trees. Monday, 15 November 2010. My wood contained a particularly tricky tree that I hadn't felt equipped to deal with until now. It was a wind thrown pine that was firmly stuck in a nearby oak and I knew I'd need the right kit before I could tackle it. Apologies for the terrible photo, my phone camera didn't do a great job with the light but here it is! It needs levelling off properly too! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
