Dealing with the diagnosis. July 20, 2013. I have been diagnosed with ADHD. I’m not sure I believe ADHD is a legitimate affliction. Even if it is, I’m not sure that I really have it. It certainly would be an enormous relief to admit that I do. But how can I be sure? There’s no objective, scientific test. Often, I am disgusted with myself for blaming a mental disorder for my own shortcomings. What about personal responsibility? Where is the accountability for my actions?
