thisgardenslife: March 2009

http://thisgardenslife.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Monday, 30 March 2009. Well I'm still pottering even if the weather people don't. Always get it right. Last week I noticed green leaves on the wisteria. Time to prune. This isn't. The best time to prune a wisteria as the flower buds have already formed on last years growth. So I was careful not to cut too many budding stems off. Believe me it may look harmless now, you wait until summer and you will see how rampant it becomes. Still plenty of buds though! First ever flower buds on the climbing hydrangea.

Tuesday, 26 May 2009. Whilst enjoying the lovely weather I noticed how my thyme was attracting butterflies and bees. So guess whats on my shopping list. Its only the second year of ownership and I just love it. Ive been away (see summerfete. This is what I came back too! I'm sure you will agree that with all this lovely sunshine, gardens are really thriving this year, be it lupins, foxgloves, geraniums etc. For the first time I have made two wigwams for my sweet peas and one for some morning glory. A lot...

Lucy Locket's "Lotamunt": 9th and 10th May 2009

http://lucylocketsallotment.blogspot.com/2009/05/9th-and-10th-may-2009.html

Sunday, 10 May 2009. 9th and 10th May 2009. All last week I was just longing to get to the allotment and planned to go straight there on Saturday morning but then got distracted by dividing Daisy and Fred's bedroom to give them each their own "room". Then at 3'o clock I got a call from Alison to say she was up there so even though it had started to rain heavily and the wind was blowing wildly I abandoned the rest of the Lockets to the tidying and was up there like a shot! It means they have a slightly sm...

This Gardener's Life | Gardening at my house in Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim, Ireland

This Gardener's Life. Gardening at my house in Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim, Ireland. October 10, 2013. With small amounts of space you can grow several vegetables that are quick to grow and don’t require a lot of maintenance. Before I put up my polytunnel I had 4 vegetable beds that were about 3 foot by 4 foot each. Being able to go out and pick some fresh veg to make a quick lunch makes growing your own worth the effort. I planted these in July and growth has been very slow until I put them in the polytunne...

This Gardening Life

Tuesday, November 08, 2011. Inspiring trip to Rancho Reubidoux. It's autumn, which means time for major clean up at Casa Grande. The recent wind and rain has left the place pretty ragged. But the big Chinese elm in the backyard is going to be trimmed next week, so no point in doing any vacuuming of the pea stone yet. In the meantime, EZ Go Marge, Bug Blog sister and I trekked to Rancho Reubidoux. For their Garden Bazaar on Saturday. FUN! This pitchfork was turned into a planter. Links to this post. After...

this garden project | we plant things and hope they'll live

We plant things and hope they'll live. 2014 Garden Project Summary Shots. 2014 Week6: Garden Earwig Traps. June 26, 2014. June 26, 2014. We knew they’d find the garden and establish a beachhead. In droves they came and started to chew away at the vegetables we want to eat ourselves. Those nasty little earwigs. Disgusting insects with a face not even a mother insect could love. But I am not sympathetic. I just want them gone. How do you deal with earwigs? Well, follow the instructions here. Vegetable Gard...
