Olympic Sized Comox Valley Hospital? | Thomas Dishlevoy Architecture

Designing living buildings on Vancouver Island. Olympic Sized Comox Valley Hospital? April 22, 2014 6 Comments. I read with disbelief the Comox Valley Echo newspaper article from Tuesday April 8. Why not if that is an option for them? Problems with the Current Process. How much ink could be spent writing about the problems with the current health care delivery system and the creation of health care infrastructure? I would suggest quite a bit! Why are we getting what we are getting? How exposed are we to ...

Designing living buildings on Vancouver Island. That’s a lot of gas for a little CAR! May 10, 2013 3 Comments. I just pre-approved my credit card for $50 to fill up my little Fiat 500 and the pump stopped before the tank was full! Are you kidding me? Must be the summer fuel prices again. What does it cost to fill a 3/4 ton pick-up these days? Who wants to join me and put an end to this extortion by designing and lobbying for more compact communities where walking and cycling is actually a real option?

Designing living buildings on Vancouver Island. Courtenay’s GHG Changes. November 9, 2010 1 Comment. Are you ready for all of the changes proposed by the City of Courtenay as they tackle the tough challenge of reducing our community’s impact on Climate Change? Crossing of the Courtenay River will save tax payers over $30 M alone. Designing narrower city streets for pedestrians and cyclists will cost less than widening them for cars. With this new approach to infrastructure, opportunities will be ...Ridin...

Designing living buildings on Vancouver Island. Too Big to Fix? December 28, 2011. Miles of pavement and concrete. Roads that go everywhere and yet nowhere. Rivers re-built with concrete banks and bottoms. For as far as the eye can see. Bordered by distant mountains, too steep and expensive to develop – for today anyways. Beneath a blanket of man fouled air not healthy enough to breathe. And nary a remnant of nature. So much capitol invested over a few hundred years. Heat, beat and treat. Too big to fail?

February 3, 2015. People judge you on things that I think are insignificant. For instance fonts. I had no idea the judgments. That are attached to them. Use comic sans and you will be thought of as stupid, really who even uses the word stupid today? After 25 years in the RCAF I am going to Loyalist College and studying architecture and public relations. I have spent many years and reading and researching about healthier, green living and I would like to see it become mainstream. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Pitch it to the right place. January 18, 2015. Do you want to get your message heard? You have to convince a publication or media outlet that it is interesting to their audience. The message has to match the publication. I have thought of a few examples of messages and who would be interested in them. Ecovillage builds code to change buildings. Do you focus on fear? February 21, 2015. If an airplane crashes anywhere in the world it is front page news. There are car crashes every day in Belleville and it’s not news. So why is it that if a person is afraid to ride in a car they are thought of as crazy but fear of flying seems reasonable? Our Perception is molded by what we focus on. Journalism is not dead; its loyalties have just changed. November 29, 2014. Photo by: Harrison Davis. The old model of the unbiased journalist looking for a balanced story is vanishing. If you have visions of having a notebook and a fedora with a press pass in the band and saying just the facts ma’am you will perish. The print media that has held on to this way and made ends meet by lowering wages and reducing staff are clinging to life. Want to make a living? After 25 years in the RCAF I am going to Loy...

Designing living buildings on Vancouver Island. Lessons from Portland – Comox Mall Redevelopment. May 30, 2014 1 Comment. What if we took the site of the Comox Centre Mall and redeveloped it using some of the principles from Portland, starting with block size and street width? Who else is in? Lessons from Portland – Transit. May 30, 2014. During my recent trip to Portland, I did something that I rarely, if ever do when I am at home – I took transit. Why is that? I would argue that of course there is!
