I therefore wrote, in 2002, xp SMTPSendMail for sending emails directly from a stored procedure. Initially written in 32bit Visual C , I wrote an implemention from scratch of the SMTP protocol based on the Asynchronous Programming Model. To support attachments I also wrote an implemention of MIME Base64 encoding and quoted-printable encoding.
