In Search of Franklin - 2012 expedition. To go back and see 2011 Expedition go to: http:/ bushpilotdhc.blogspot.com/. Tuesday, November 13, 2012. The little ship Eagle. A little boat I had photographed in Cambridge Bay this last summer, abandoned a while ago. In doing some digging on this boat, I have come to find out that it was abandoned in 1954 by a famous local priest who had worked with the Inuit of Cambridge Bay, Father Steinman. To see the white whales are still congregating in the Churchill River mouth. Just have to watch the tides and the river current. Landed near the mouth of Hudson Bay and drifted over the belugas. Avoid the buoys, and especially the dangers beyond. View looking northeast to Hudson Bay. Posted by Ron Carlson, RA ILL. Ron Carlson, RA ILL.

In Search of Franklin - 2012 expedition. To go back and see 2011 Expedition go to: http:/ bushpilotdhc.blogspot.com/. Sunday, July 22, 2012. Erebus Bay - Some New Finds. After flying a large part of the southern shores of Erebus Bay and taking pictures of the shallows and deeper waters of the bottom of the ocean there, have made some intriging finds. A couple of compelling targets. There looks to be some kind of marking on the pole, near the middle. Or maybe just a weed. Pole and beam object. Before I le...

A librarian working in the media. Thursday, 14 February 2013. Nostalgia for press cuttings. Despite the prevalence of full-text databases, digital archives and other electronic sources, old-fashioned press cuttings can still be a valuable research tool for journalists. I wrote about this, along with the nostalgia for the scrappy files, for the Guardian's Open door column. More details can be found on their website and a letter about the group. Appeared in the Guardian. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

A librarian working in the media. Tuesday, 4 February 2014. Nelson Mandela: a life reported. An ebook I recently edited, tells the Nelson Mandela story as seen through the eyes of the Guardian and the Observer. It was during the early 1960s and the emergence of the so-called ‘Black Pimpernel,’ that the papers started to regularly write about Mandela. The Observer in particular took a keen interest in South African affairs. David Astor. Colin Legum and later Anthony Sampson. Became the Observer’s ex...

CLUTCHCARGO: Old Timers
http://seaplaneadventures.blogspot.com/2012/03/old-timers.html
CLUTCHCARGO - that’s the name. He was a funny cartoon seaplane pilot character from a TV show that aired here back in the 60’s. - - It’s a Chicago thing. Saturday, March 24, 2012. Interesting short video on "Old Timer" Alaskan Bush Pilots, from History Channel. Worth watching - a little over 8 minutes long. Check out old timer Oren Hudson, from Alaska, in his 1942 Grumman G-44 Widgeon. Is that a bicycle type chain drive built into the yolk for aileron control? Ron Carlson, RA ILL. In Search of Franklin.

In Search of Franklin. Ron Carlson Arctic Expeditions. To see 2012 expedition go to: http:/ bushpilotexplorer.blogspot.com/. Sunday, July 8, 2012. While surfing the web for earth curvature mirage information (another story), I just happened to come across an interesting article that speaks of the mirage effect in the polar regions and it brought me back to my post below from last year on November 28, 2011 titled: "The Location of the Ships? Article has any merit (click here). Hills, valleys, snow-capped ...
