Test-driven Backbone.js - Part One - Being Agile
http://blog.thepete.net/blog/2013/01/23/test-driven-backbone-dot-js-part-one
Test-driven Backbone.js - Part One. In this series of posts I’m going to walk through some practical details on how we can develop Backbone.js applications in a test-driven manner. Developing this way leads to better structured applications, as we’ll discover. We’ll be using Jasmine as our test runner and we’ll be using sinon.js to create test doubles (mocks and stubs). We’ll also use a few other small utilities and plugins as we go. Part one - test driven models. To be a backbone model. I’m be...As a st...

Using Travis CI and xctool to build and test iOS apps - Being Agile
http://blog.thepete.net/blog/2013/05/07/using-travis-ci-and-xctool-to-build-and-test-ios
Using Travis CI and Xctool to Build and Test iOS Apps. Is a cloud-based Continuous Integration service which is free to use (but only on. Github projects). They recently. Support for OS X agents, which means you can now use Travis to build and test iOS applications. In this post I’ll show how I set up basic CI for an example iOS app using Travis, with the help of xctool. To see a working example of the sort of thing we’ll be setting up, take a look at the github repo. And the corresponding Travis page.

optimizing 3rd party JavaScript loading - Being Agile
http://blog.thepete.net/blog/2014/08/27/optimizing-3rd-party-javascript-loading
Optimizing 3rd Party JavaScript Loading. I was doing some research today on preventing slow/flakey external javascript files from 3rd-party sources from slowing down your perceived page load times. Things like tracking pixels and chat widgets are generally loaded via script tags, and if you’re not careful then one rogue provider can create a really poor experience for users on your site. I hate that phrase, but oh well. On minimizing RTT (round trip time). As usual, Ilya Grigorik does a great job. The Ul...

STEPHEN CHU . com: Go to Ruby ! and ? method definition with TextMate CTags
http://www.stephenchu.com/2008/09/go-to-ruby-and-method-definition-with.html
STEPHEN CHU . com. My thoughts on software development, open source, agile methodology, technology, and stuff that matters. Friday, September 26, 2008. Method definition with TextMate CTags. If you are not yet using the TextMate CTags bundle. In your Ruby/Rails development, you are missing out big time. This bundle allows you to go to a method definition as easy as pointing your cursor at the method and hit a keyboard shortcut. It has served me well and I highly recommend it. And change Word Characters.

Planning and Running an XP Iteration
http://martinfowler.com/articles/planningXpIteration.html
Planning and Running an XP Iteration. Chief Scientist, ThoughtWorks. Last Significant Update: January 2001. This article was written in late 2000 and was based on the experiences we had at that time. There is much that both ThoughtWorks and the agile community has learned since then, so bear that in mind as you read this. Sadly we don't have time to comprehensively re-assess the content of the article, so just beware that we don't necessarily agree now with what we believed then. In XP terms, our "custom...

I have similar mixed feelings about wikis. I like the way they allow you to quickly put stuff together. But they can easily lead to long rambling sites. And I do like the fact that blogs make it easy to see what's really changed recently - thanks to the hooks into RSS and aggregators. I intend to use this to post ideas that are forming, but either too immature or too short for a proper article. Also as I see questions posted on mailing lists or newsgroups I'll try to provide a lasting answer here. Martin...
