Access to The Great Park is free. Heading down the Long Walk can make a fitting conclusion for. Those setting off from Winchester, but walkers should note that the Park closes at dusk. Entry charges (initially introduced following the great fire in 1992) currently vary between 9.40 for over 60s when the State Apartments are occasionally closed, up to 19.20 for a standard adult ticket. Walkers may prefer to rely on photos like this! Available from HERON MAPS and WINDSOR TOURIST INFORMATION CENTRE.

The Three Castles Path. Is a long distance route from Windsor to Winchester, providing 60 miles of easy walking through peaceful historic and beautiful countryside. The idea for this route was inspired by the well documented 13th century journeys of King John between Windsor Castle and Winchester, via the castle he built near Odiham. This is Crown Land to which, under the Windsor Forest Enclosure Act of 1813, the public have had continued free access to watch the races until that is, 2012 when, following an incident involving a jogger wearing headphones (who failed to notice the convoy that follow the horses on the perimeter road) a pass system was introduced for residents on certain racedays.
