Casita de Laredo Homestead: Carrots Like Turtles
http://casitadelaredohomestead.blogspot.com/2011/04/carrots-like-turtles.html
Casita de Laredo Homestead. Saturday, April 9, 2011. What is it with carrots in the desert? I've been growing carrots for about two years in Arizona. The one thing every harvest has in common is the incredibly long wait. What's your turtle plant? For more info on us, click Arizona homestead and homeschool. It used to be Basil. but now I get the already seeded plants and that helps a little. Im cheating a bit ;-). Homegrown carrots taste soooooo much better than the store kind! Casita de Laredo Homestead: Urban Homesteading and Meat
http://casitadelaredohomestead.blogspot.com/2011/04/urban-homesteading-and-meat.html
Casita de Laredo Homestead. Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Urban Homesteading and Meat. One of the dilemmas facing a city dwelling farmer is how to produce meat. Basically, the question is whether to raise, buy or eliminate meat altogether. In the long run, we have resolved to implement all three strategies. Taking the seasons of plenty with the seasons of not-as-much and deciding which best fits our current situation. Adaptation, if you will. It is the way of the urban homesteader. Casita de Laredo Homestead: Edible Flowers
http://casitadelaredohomestead.blogspot.com/2011/04/edible-flowers.html
Casita de Laredo Homestead. Thursday, April 21, 2011. One way we have overcome this issue is by utilizing edible flowers throughout the year. For instance, in the summer we plant the father of all edibles, the sunflower. We try to choose southwest natives but any sunflower will do. The only other summer flower we've tried is marigold. In the cooler season, we use nasturtium, pansies and cornflower. You can find a detailed list of edibles here. For more info on us, click Arizona homestead and homeschool.

Casita de Laredo Homestead. Thursday, March 24, 2011. When we landscaped the property to sell, we planted hibiscus in the front yard along the house. They have made it through the last 4 years without to many problems. However, they did not survive the hard freeze in February. We replaced them with Pineapple Guava. The flowers and fruit are edible. Looking forward to the addition later on down the road. For more info on us, click Arizona homestead and homeschool. March 24, 2011 at 7:02 AM. Cactus Feeds, ...

Casita de Laredo Homestead: Food Co-op
http://casitadelaredohomestead.blogspot.com/2011/05/food-co-op.html
Casita de Laredo Homestead. Tuesday, May 3, 2011. A couple of years ago, before the big switch to city homesteading, we participated in a local food co-op. In a private food co-op, shopping is limited to members only. You pay an up-front fee and possibly a set amount to purchase a share. You will act as part of a governing board responsible for making decisions as to the what, where, who and when. I am waiting for you to grow a surplus so that you can be my co-op. My jalapeno peppers look great! My fianc...
