What Makes it Work. Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism are two conditions that arise from the thyroid gland not functioning properly. Hypothyroidism is the most common form. This is when the thyroid is ‘under’ performing. The opposite (Hyperthyroidism) is when the thyroid is ‘over’ performing. Unless there is an unrelated condition that affects circulation (i.e. some kind of peripheral vascular disease like Raynauds disease) cold hands and feet are most likely a sign of an under-active thyroid.

Higher levels of TSH indicates that the pituitary gland is producing more TSH in response the body telling it that the current levels of T4 and T3 aren’t enough. Consistent readings at the upper limit of the range are not a good sign. What Makes it Work. The approach to help treat hypothyroidism is to replace the hormones (T4 and T3) that the body is not producing itself. T4 is credited with 20% of activity within cells while T3 is credited with 80% of activity within cells.
