Timber Framing a North Idaho Cabin: May 2007

Timber Framing a North Idaho Cabin. A blow-by-blow account of building a small timber frame cabin in the North Idaho woods. Friday, May 18, 2007. In late April, I attended a timber framing workshop at Grand Oaks Timber Framing. Below, you can see RJ starting to cut some dovetail mortises using a Makita chain mortiser. That mortiser is a fantastic tool! It saves considerable time (I now own one). :-). Below, Scott is checking some measurements on a timber. Remember, measure 22 times before cutting! The mo...

Timber Framing a North Idaho Cabin. A blow-by-blow account of building a small timber frame cabin in the North Idaho woods. Sunday, July 22, 2007. I've (re)finished all of the braces finally. The only pieces left to cut are the roof system (rafters and purlins). Its time to test-fit the walls and bents, draw the timbers tight with rachet-straps and drill the 1" peg holes. Timber Framing a North Idaho Cabin. A blow-by-blow account of building a small timber frame cabin in the North Idaho woods. Tuesday, February 27, 2007. However, since it was already dark outside, Caleb could not remove the tree that night. So, he tethered the spruce tree to an adjacent spruce tree with a large rope and called it good for the night. We all called it an evening and hoped that the wind would die down. The tree was leaning noticeably to the East. In addition to a 6' log that Caleb lopped off...

Timber Framing a North Idaho Cabin. A blow-by-blow account of building a small timber frame cabin in the North Idaho woods. Monday, January 22, 2007. Logging and milling are all on hold right now. The weather conditions are still prohibitive due to snow pack and associated road conditions. I am also waiting on Jon to have time to mill, probably sometime in February. The mill has some kind of minor hydraulic leak as well, which is also troublesome. Posted by neuwave @ 10:28 AM. Links to this post. NOTE: F...

Timber Framing a North Idaho Cabin. A blow-by-blow account of building a small timber frame cabin in the North Idaho woods. Sunday, March 25, 2007. I called up Peter and Matt, and we headed out on a rainy and cold Sunday morning. Matt and I will share the logs. Peter just came out for the fun and to be supportive. Peter and Rob cut the fallen trees into logs and cleaned up some of the slash. It was slow and tedious work. This trailer rocks. Many thanks to Mike for allowing us to borrow it! We cut most of...

http://ourloghomeendeavor.blogspot.com/2008/04/cutting-more-trees.html

Our Log Home Endeavor. Our Family's Endeavor Into Building Our Dream Log Home From Scratch. Tuesday, April 1, 2008. We started cutting trees yesterday at my mamas house. Today my Paw Paw was doing some work in the his cow pasture and came by and helped me load some logs. He was a big help with his skid steer. Paw Paw loading them up. A load of saw logs. It was interesting to see you cut the tree down - it seemed so effortless - but I know it's dangerous. April 3, 2008 at 7:15 PM. View my complete profile.

http://ourloghomeendeavor.blogspot.com/2008/02/cutting-some-trees.html

Our Log Home Endeavor. Our Family's Endeavor Into Building Our Dream Log Home From Scratch. Monday, February 25, 2008. As much as I hate to, I'm going to have to stop working on the house for a couple of weeks. I've been given quite a few pine trees to cut down and remove. I have about 20 that our church wanted removed from around the parsonage and about that many more my mama wants cut down from her place. They are tired of picking up pine cones before they cut the grass. Your site looks beautiful!

Our Log Home Endeavor. Our Family's Endeavor Into Building Our Dream Log Home From Scratch. Friday, February 29, 2008. Last spring while I was in the Indianapolis IN area going to the Lasko School of Log Building. I managed to visit a place called Conner Prairie. Just north of Indianapolis. As I entered the outdoor museum I was amazed by the early 1800 hand hewn style log cabins and barns. One of the largest collections of restored log structures that I've ever visited. Our Log Home Endeavor. Our Family's Endeavor Into Building Our Dream Log Home From Scratch. Thursday, April 10, 2008. I just wanted to share some spring colors with you. The first two pictures are a before and after shot of the front yard of the parsonage. Big difference! Most of the people at church didn't know that the dogwoods and azaleas were there. The parsonage before we cut trees. Spring after the trees were removed. These are some azaleas I planted for mama about 20 years ago. Building A Log Cabin.
