It's not a bug. It's a feature. Hi I’m Sarah Cole. Always on holiday by mistake. Pale Occasionally interesting. Goon. Writer. Gamer. Geek. Classicist. Fantastical. Digital. Curious. I do digital and heritage stuff at TIME/IMAGE. But this blog doesn’t necessarily reflect the views of the company. Recently I’m also Creative Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the British Library, where I have made a geolocation app about poetry and history of places called Poetic Places. Find me on the Twitters under @irny.

We thought it’d be useful to share a list of all the sources and tools we’ve drawn content from for Poetic Places. It’s not a listing of all the open content on the web by any stretch, but it might be useful to those working on creative projects. We’ve focussed on including visual media sources, as our literary research was more widespread and there are fewer searchable collections of poems and suchlike. British Library Flickr Commons. Yale Center for British Art. Useful, but it’s not easy to tell ...

Location, Travel, Accommodation. Rules – Longsword, Sabre, Sword and Buckler. Rules – Rapier & Dagger. The modern sport of fencing is derived from earlier systems. But this is a small part of the whole picture. Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) is founded on the premise that although these systems fell out of use, or mutated into something different, it is possible to reassemble them. This description of HEMA is based on an interview with P. Terminiello. Or the International Federation of HEMA.

Points of Interest – Poetic Places
http://www.poeticplaces.uk/points-of-interest
Though we have quite a thorough ‘About’ page, I thought it would be useful to list (in no particular order) the main points of interest in the Poetic Places project. This may be of particular use for others working on this sort of project in the cultural heritage sector so I’ve endeavoured to be upfront about the various aspects below. Creative Use of Open Collections. Poetic Places draws content from multiple collections and resources. You can find a list of these here. Sum of the Parts. Poetic Places w...

The Creative Exchange Launchpad Event (16/05/12) – The Patchwork Fez
http://www.patchworkfez.co.uk/2012/05/17/the-creative-exchange-launchpad-event-160512
It's not a bug. It's a feature. The Creative Exchange Launchpad Event (16/05/12). On Wednesday I went to the Creative Exchange. Launchpad event at the Museum of Science and Industry. In Manchester. I’ll start by saying that MOSI was a great venue, and looked like a really interesting museum – I was quite disappointed that I didn’t have time to look round it. The event was, in a word, good. I made eight pages of scrawled notes, and I only wrote down things that were interesting. After a coffee-break, Nevi...
