Sunday, June 19, 2011. Holding Down Bent Strips. I decided not to use staples on the deck of the boat. This means that strips have to be held into place with something else when they are glued into place. I'm using a dab of hot glue where the strips meet the forms. Hot glue isn't as strong as a staple, so in difficult situations other means are necessary. A notch is cut into a small piece of scrap wood:. The wood clamp is placed where needed, a hole is drilled, and a screw holds it into place:. I cut the...

Tim's Blog of Kayaking and Life: A Drastic Do-Over

http://timskayaking.blogspot.com/2011/05/drastic-do-over.html

Saturday, May 14, 2011. When last we left progress on the kayak, I had discussed using cheater strips to allow the strips to go on with less bend and associated stress. This image shows cheaters in place on the bow (note the triangular gap at the point of the cheater strip). How to remove the cheaters? After the cheaters were out, I peeled off what softened glue I could and trimmed the rest with a sharp chisel. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Fixing a Big Gap. Filling in Some Gaps. Tim's Blog of Kayaking and Life: Yet More Repairs

http://timskayaking.blogspot.com/2011/05/yet-more-repairs.html

Monday, May 30, 2011. So what to do when there is ding or a gouge in a strip? Patch it, of course. The first set of photos illustrates the process for a fairly serious gouge. The following photos show the results from repairing chip-out from some irregular grain. The two pictures above show the original damage to the strip. This damage is from a gouge that was in the original board that I cut into strips. Glue the scrap into place and either tape or clamp it. The two photos above show the process for a c...

Tim's Blog of Kayaking and Life: August 2009

Wednesday, August 26, 2009. Strongback 1.0 and 1.1. Alternate title for this post: Why You should Strive to Make Every Step of the Process as Perfect as Possible. The fact that I'm using version numbers should be a not-so-subtle hint that things didn't go very well. I decided to do a box beam as described in The Stripbuilt Sea Kayak. So I got myself a sheet of plywood, ripped it into appropriately-sized boards, and then used the table saw to make the rabbets for the glued joints. To make a long story sho...

Tim's Blog of Kayaking and Life: Fixing the Sheer Strip for the Deck

http://timskayaking.blogspot.com/2011/06/fixing-sheer-strip-for-deck.html

Sunday, June 19, 2011. Fixing the Sheer Strip for the Deck. The sheer runs along the full length of the kayak at the widest part of the kayak. It is where the hull meets the deck and where the two halves of the kayak are joined together after the hull and deck are completed. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Holding Down Bent Strips. Sketchbookz

Thursday, December 13, 2012. This guy was done around winter 2010/spring of 2011. My first hardcover sketchbook. It was during High School that I decided it would be a good idea to actually organize all of my drawings in the same place, instead of saving math tests and handouts with drawings that I liked on them. This one was done in 2010, I can't remember exactly when though. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Simple template. Powered by Blogger.
