Ethics and the Prime Directive. Growing as much food on as little land for as little money as possible. Triangles, Triangles and more Triangles. July 8, 2015. I now only have 34 more triangles to make and once I am set up I can make a triangle in about two and a half minutes so it doesn’t take long once you get going. All of the timber for the remaining triangles has been cut and milled ready to go so I will get all the triangles finished this week. Wood cut and milled for the remaining triangles. You ar...

Ethics and the Prime Directive. Growing as much food on as little land for as little money as possible. So, what do you think? July 19, 2015. Just a very short entry to say that with the help of some good friends Max and Malcolm and my beautiful wife Jules we managed to build the Geodesic Dome Greenhouse in just over two hours. I still have to build thee door but we are just about there. I need a drink. I will do a proper write up but I am just too knackered at the moment. July 19, 2015 at 7:00 pm. Notif...

Ethics and the Prime Directive. Growing as much food on as little land for as little money as possible. These are my own thoughts on what I think the 12 design principles mean. As I have said before I have no formal training in Permaculture and I have yet to do a PDC but I do like to try to use Permaculture Principles not only on the land but in all aspects of my life. If you disagree with my interpretation of the principles or have anything to add please do leave a comment. 1: Observe and Interact.

Ethics and the Prime Directive. Growing as much food on as little land for as little money as possible. Today could be the day…. July 19, 2015. 8230;that we build our dome! It has been a mammoth task but all the triangle have been made, covered in plastic and assembled into hexagon and pentagon panels. The base is level and round and the weather looks like it will hold until tea time. Hopefully the next time I write in this blog I will have a fully built dome on my allotment. This is how it looks now.

Ethics and the Prime Directive. Growing as much food on as little land for as little money as possible. 55 Vegetables in 4 square feet? October 12, 2014. Introducing the barrel garden. This is a picture of a mature barrel garden from thee tower garden project. 8220;WOW, Where can I get one of these fantastic gardens? I started with a tight head barrel I have had hanging around for about 5 years. It only took about 10 minutes to cut the top off and it ended up being quite a neat job. I don’t thi...Next jo...

My first foray into blogdom. Welcome to my allotment, this little patch of mud somewhere in London. Tuesday, September 27, 2011. Wallis thinks he is the big man (he weighs just 14 ounces full grown) and he struts like he owns the world. We called him Wallis because when those beautiful feathers came in they reminded me of a Tiffany lamp and so (hoping for a hen) he was named after 30's icon Wallis Simpson. Ah well, my mum reckons Simpson was tarty strumpet anyway! Links to this post. The beauty of piccal...

My first foray into blogdom. Welcome to my allotment, this little patch of mud somewhere in London. Wednesday, October 01, 2014. I harvested the last of the cucumbers and used two different recipes to make sweet pickles and sour dill pickles. Cucumber glut to be processed. The first recipe was this one for sweet dill pickles. I do these as slices and they are very popular with Little Flower who will pop a jar and eat the whole lot while doing her homework.better than sweets I s'pose! 250 g sliced onions.

My first foray into blogdom. Welcome to my allotment, this little patch of mud somewhere in London. Wednesday, May 20, 2015. The Slug Trap Experiment. With seedlings everywhere it's a regular smorgasbord for the slimies and something needs to be done! Slugs do have an important job to do. Without them (apparently) we'd be up to our elbows in the pooh of every living thing. Somehow though.the fact that slugs save us from mountains of shoite by eating it does little to endear them to me. Now, pubs are more...

My first foray into blogdom. Welcome to my allotment, this little patch of mud somewhere in London. Friday, May 08, 2015. HOME MADE SEED TAPES. I've made some seed tapes. An internet friend from a forum I visit has had great success growing parsnips this way. So I'm copying him! Home made DIY seedtapes. I had started off my parsnip seeds on wet tissue paper, planting only the seeds that germinated, in the hope of getting a full row (for once in my life). Can it really be that easy? The top half of a milk...

Spinning Sue's Homemade Life. I'm a mis-placed Aussie living in the UK knitting, spinning, weaving and dyeing to my little heart's content. Now with added gardening and cooking! Sunday, July 19, 2009. Week 2 of the Tour saw me spin my first 4ply yarn. It was fun! The fibre is Shetland from Southern Cross Fibre in 'Koala'. It's about DK-ish weight, 105g and 174m. Next up on the wheel is some more SCF this time Polwarth in 'Adelaide'. My home town brilliantly brought to life with fibre and dye! Wales, Day 3.

Spinning Sue's Homemade Life. I'm a mis-placed Aussie living in the UK knitting, spinning, weaving and dyeing to my little heart's content. Now with added gardening and cooking! Sunday, February 15, 2015. In May last year, G and I moved to a rented house in Banbury and I love the house! Look at the lovely cooker! That won't be allowed to happen again this year! The most exciting bit of news is that I am on the waiting list for an allotment! About a month ago I sowed some tomato and basil seeds which have...

Spinning Sue's Homemade Life. I'm a mis-placed Aussie living in the UK knitting, spinning, weaving and dyeing to my little heart's content. Now with added gardening and cooking! Saturday, March 21, 2015. But things are beginning to stir and it looks as though Spring is really trying hard to get going. I go for a walk in the University Parks on Friday lunchtimes with a couple of my colleagues and usually end up taking a few pictures on my phone. Yesterday, it was looking very Spring-like. This has happene...

Tuesday, 29 July 2014. In a matter of days, I'll be moving to America. To live and study. For a year! I'm going to be living in Maine and studying at their university as part of my course. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to set up a travels blog, which for someone like me who is pretty unadventurous, is a pretty big step. If you love to read about road trips and travelling around, or if you are interested in the idea of studying abroad then hopefully you'll enjoy reading it! Sunday, 18 May 2014.

Ethics and the Prime Directive. Growing as much food on as little land for as little money as possible. July 30, 2015. Building the Geodesic dome. Ground Anchors holding the geodesic Dome greenhouse to the ground. Right, the stage was now set to build the dome. The base was round, level and secure. All the panels were up on site and my battery drill was charged up. Just one more thing. Back home for a full Cornish breakfast. The first panels in place for the Geodesic Dome Greenhouse. At this point reinfo...
