Saturday, July 24, 2010. Byblos Cafe- Restaurant Review. A few weeks ago I went to a cafe called Byblos in Montreal’s Plateau neighbourhood with a friend. Byblos is a very cute Persian cafe with a really cozy atmosphere. The menu isn’t large but it’s divided into main courses, a brunch section and a section with yogurt and legume based dips. To start off, I ordered a rosewater sherbet. The syrup was at the bottom and you had stir it to mix everything up before drinking it. We also ordered these chicken a...

Cookbook Fixation: Cookbooks I Own
http://cookbookfixation.blogspot.com/p/cookbooks-i-own.html
I own quite a few cookbooks and I add to my collection regularly. I'll update this page as it will take me a while to put all my recipe books here. Here are some of them with my comments and a rating out of 10. Jamie's Food Revolution: Rediscover How to Cook Simple, Delicious, Affordable Meals. 9 out of 10. I loved this cookbook. This is a great book for both amateur and advanced home cooks. He has a whole section on making your own curry pastes from scratch which I use all the time. 10 out of 10 because...

Thursday, August 26, 2010. Creamy Crab and and Goat Cheese Pasta. I don’t really like pasta (I can practically hear an audible gasp here), but for whatever reason I really was craving it last week. I have a habit of buying bottles and other sundry food items and taking my sweet time to use them up, so lately I’ve really been making and effort to use up more items; this pasta is a result of me trying to cook out of my pantry. Green onions, salt and pepper. Cooked through with tomato sauce added. But I fou...

SFM Second Half Marathon – Race Report. A Whole New Self? How can I resist! How sad is that. So, year after year I continue to pay $12 annually, thinking, this year I will read it! I will find the time! I was hooked from the beginning by the Editor’s Letter. It was titled Transform yourself! I couldn’t believe it your body is 1% different, or renewed EVERY DAY. Your taste buds are different, even your muscles are completely new after 90 days. And the best part of all? Other cool things from this issue:.

Cookbook Fixation: November 2009
http://cookbookfixation.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 29, 2009. Sometimes there are things that I cook that are not particularly photogenic but taste oh so good. Moussaka is a really good example of this since everything just tends to ooze deliciously together. This was my first time making this and I was so glad that I gave it a try. I don’t know much about Greek food but I would imagine that this is Greece’s answer to the concept of comfort food. I also chopped up a generous amount of parsley and chucked it in the pot. The eggplants. ...

Wednesday, October 28, 2009. Indian Pumpkin Laksa Soup. I love anything pumpkin. I've actually never carved a pumpkin in my life but I love cooking with them. Usually I end up making pumpkin scones or pumpkin chocolate chip squares but this time I decided to go the savoury route with a Jamie Oliver recipe for Indian Pumpkin Laksa Soup. It is for a thick soup with coconut milk, lime, cilantro, pumpkin and basmati rice. Yum. Once the pumpkin softened a bit I added some rice. Once the rice was finally cooked.
