Welcome in Egypt!: November 2009
http://tom-in-egypt.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 30, 2009. Anyway, I went to the orphanage with Saba and Tammam today, and it was awesome. Despite my fears, it was clean, well-kept, and had computers for the children. The workers there were incredibly pleasant and answered all of my questions for me. Simply amazing. One of the little boys we visited reached out and touched my chin. He rubbed his hand on my beard for a second and then asked, "Are you a sheikh? Saturday, November 28, 2009. Sex before marriage is totally anathema to most ...

Welcome in Egypt!: June 2009
http://tom-in-egypt.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 29, 2009. You're in a chair, in the sky. There are two morals to this story:. First: If you have stock in United Airlines, sell it. Second: Watch this clip. And laugh at me. It's just a vibe I get. So I'm in the Frankfurt airport wearing green cargo pants, a pink UT Longhorns Swimming shirt, and tennis shoes and the whole time I am looking rather non-Arab. A lady approaches me and pointing to a bathroom, asks me in Arabic, "Is this bathroom for ladies? Sunday, June 28, 2009. An Elf in Egypt.

Welcome in Egypt!: September 2009
http://tom-in-egypt.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 25, 2009. Order in the court! I got back from Church in Cairo (which was awesome, thanks for asking) and settled down to write a blog post for my new LDS YSAs blog. I didn't get very far when Michael came running in and yelled, "Tom, I need your help! Does this help require me putting on a shirt? Uh, yeah, we're going to court.". Apparently the guy who messed with Sarah and Katie (full story here. If that's confusing to you, try being there simultaneously translating. I wish I was joking.

Welcome in Egypt!: August 2009
http://tom-in-egypt.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 31, 2009. To all of you who have written me, I will write you back when I get back to Alex. I have to pay for the internet by the hour here so I use it maybe once a week. And it looks like I won't be making it back to Alex as soon as I thought. I just got a room for less than half the price I pay in Alex here in Dahab, so I will be here for a couple of weeks more, then back to school. Thursday, August 13, 2009. Then Robert starts talking to four Russian girls. One speaks broken English...

A tall traveller s small tales. Misrata, 12.30am, 22/08/11. October 14, 2014. Things are finally coming to a head here in Libya; the end is nigh for the Colonel and his regime. I’m sat watching Al Jazeera’s rolling coverage of events, showing images of people celebrating in Freedom Square on the waterfront in Benghazi juxtaposed with the news that the revolutionaries have taken control of swathes of Tripoli, having even reached Gaddafi’s beloved Green Square. The rolling news is still playing in front of...

Bariloche | a tall traveller´s small tales
https://tawil86.wordpress.com/2010/12/21/bariloche
A tall traveller s small tales. December 21, 2010. Tickets were scarce for San Carlos de Bariloche. So I was kicked off the bus in Esquel. In sight. It all felt decidedly Alpine: wooden chalets, forested mountainsides, there was even a hotel in town called Edelweiss. I was waiting for the yodelling to start. Bariloche itself, once we’d arrived, didn’t disappoint. Nestled on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi. Later that afternoon Carla came round the hostel and initiated me in the rites of mate, the better ...

A tall traveller s small tales. October 14, 2014. Quick update on life in the Misrata enclave. Like I’ve said before, this is an office job with a bit of a twist. A tall traveller s small tales. November 29, 2010. Having been dropped off at the hostel, back over on the Brazilian side of the border, I got my things together and, three buses down the line and with darkness having already set in, found myself at Paraguayan immigration in Ciúdad del Este, separated from Brazil by the Rio Paraná. Paraguay was going to have to be short and sweet – it was already Tuesday evening, and by Thursday night I had to be in Argentina and on a bus headed for Buenos Aires. And at ...

Welcome in Egypt!: Last day in Egypt
http://tom-in-egypt.blogspot.com/2010/05/last-day-in-egypt.html
Sunday, May 30, 2010. Last day in Egypt. So it's my last full day in Egypt, and I went to buy some breakfast. Of course, Egypt just couldn't let me go without being Egypt, so an old man, one of maybe three on the street, starts screaming at me. I turn and he's yelling, "Where are you from? What is your name? And good thing, too. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Last day in Egypt. Some of the few. Not the hardest test in my life. The End of an Era. Sorry Abinadi, Andrew, and Gavin. An Elf in Egypt.
