http://noticin.gs/about
Noticings was a game about learning to look at the world around you. Cities are wonderful places, and everybody finds different things in them. Some of us like to take pictures of interesting, unusual, or beautiful things we see, but many of use are moving so fast through the urban landscape we don't take in the things around us. Noticings was a game played by going a bit slower, and having a look around you. You got points for just noticing things, and bonuses for interesting coincidences. Even though n...

Custom EC2 hostnames and DNS entries | scraplab
http://scraplab.net/custom-ec2-hostnames-and-dns-entries
Is a thing by Tom Taylor. Custom EC2 hostnames and DNS entries. December 13, 2014. I’ve been doing some work with EC2 recently. I wanted to be able to bring up a server using Ansible, pre-configured with a hostname and valid, working FQDN. There’s a few complexities to this. Unless you’re using Elastic IP addresses, EC2 instances will change public IP address on reboot, so I needed to ensure that the DNS entry of the FQDN will update if the host changes. EC2 supports a thing called IAM Instance Roles.

Creative stuff, milky baby breath and some other rubbish. March 04, 2011. My friend Tom is coming over tomorrow. I went out to the garage to see if we had enough drink in stock, to have with lunch. Looks like we should be OK. Tom will drink anything. In Food and Drink. Save to del.icio.us. March 03, 2011. And its time to post something. First up, I saw this. And then I listened to this. Then I met Luke for breakfast and he inspired me by being young and interested/ing. Luke lives here. July 19, 2010.

Everything is Extraordinary: January 2011
http://everything-is-extraordinary.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Monday, 31 January 2011. Well this stands to make the already terrifying act of going to the supermarket that little bit more seizure-educing;. The boxes are powered via an induction loop, which will allow the automatic monitoring of information such as stock levels, sell-by dates and trends in sales. Whilst this is exciting in terms of data gathering possibilities, unfortunately there is a downside to this technology, as shown in this ungodly light show;. Friday, 28 January 2011. Who carried out some pr...

penny on the rail: July 2008
http://pennyontherail.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 17 July 2008. Get advance notice of the end of the world. One of my favorite tinkerers, Tom Taylor. Has done it again. He's constructed a twitter feed. That sends out a message each time a Near Earth Object. Comes within 0.2 AU. Sure, this one is a bit silly and pointless. And his next one might be too. But one day he'll build something that catches fire and make a real difference for people. Or if he likes, for a brand. This is why dev guys will take over the world. Links to this post. I have ...

Measure Anything, Measure Everything - Code as Craft
https://codeascraft.com/2011/02/15/measure-anything-measure-everything
Measure Anything, Measure Everything. Posted by Ian Malpass. On February 15, 2011. If Engineering at Etsy has a religion, it’s the Church of Graphs. If it moves, we track it. Sometimes we’ll draw a graph of something that isn’t moving yet, just in case it decides to make a run for it. In general, we tend to measure at three levels: network, machine, and application. (You can read more about our graphs in Mike’s Tracking Every Release. To a graph of X happening in about half an hour, if we want to.).

What Do People Do All Day? | scraplab
http://scraplab.net/what-do-people-do-all-day
Is a thing by Tom Taylor. What Do People Do All Day? January 18, 2015. One of Sam’s favourite books at bedtime is Richard Scarry’s ‘ What Do People Do All Day? I was going to write a post all about it, because it’s kind of brilliant (explaining economic and industrial processes for the under fives! And kind of terrible (gender roles! A society seen solely through the eyes of capitalism! So I started writing, but then I found this great post. Deconstructing it better than I could:. So I read it, and I loo...
