Under the leadership of Porsche works driver Jacky Ickx, Porsche engineered three four-wheel-drive Carreras to successfully tackle the 1984 Paris to Dakar rally. A development tool for the 959 . Three stock 'E' Series Carrera chassis were used, ES100021 claimed victory for Rene Metge. Stock 3.2 Carrera engines produced over 300 bhp, proved Porsche reliability.
