Toolerable: Fingers In the Till - European Scrub Plane

http://www.toolerable.blogspot.com/2015/07/fingers-in-till-european-scrub-plane.html

Any yahoo can have a woodworking blog. Here's mi - LOOK! Sunday, July 12, 2015. Fingers In the Till - European Scrub Plane. One of my favorite tools ever, this flea market find. Has turned into a workhorse in my shop. Here it is, I used it to bevel the underside of this chair. It's a fairly narrow plane, I suspect the blade is between 1 1/2" and 1 3/4" in width. If you build one, go with a narrow blade. When I got it, I ground it at a pretty dramatic radius. Most roughing plane instructions on the intern...

Toolerable: Last Day for June Chair Build... Almost

http://www.toolerable.blogspot.com/2015/06/last-day-for-june-chair-build-almost.html

Any yahoo can have a woodworking blog. Here's mi - LOOK! Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Last Day for June Chair Build. Almost. This build so far has been perfect. As far as I know, no one has finished their chair for the June chair build. Including me. There's still plenty of time, though, I think you probably still have a few hours depending on your time zone! The good news for me is that I made some real progress today, as it has been more than a week since I have been able to spend any time on this project.

Toolerable: Welsh Stick Chair - Done

http://www.toolerable.blogspot.com/2015/03/welsh-stick-chair-done.html

Any yahoo can have a woodworking blog. Here's mi - LOOK! Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Welsh Stick Chair - Done. It's not every day you see me finishing two projects on the same day! Done today: Vitrine and chair. I painted the bits on the vitrine that I worked on yesterday. For more info on this build, check out the previous post. Essentially, it is a modern cabinet held together only with nails. The exciting part, is I got finish on my Welsh stick chair! Well cured epoxy dribbled here to fill a void. To use...

Toolerable: April 2015

http://www.toolerable.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Any yahoo can have a woodworking blog. Here's mi - LOOK! Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Continuing the Plate 19 Moulders. I ended my last shop session being excited about how fast this project was coming along. Remember, these are moulding planes with an open mortise hopefully making them easier to construct. I cut away a bevel on the blind side of the planes at about 30 degrees. I then started rounding over the profile on the round plane. With a 30 degree bevel cut on the blind side. The other thing I should ...

Toolerable: June Chair Build - Finished in the Nick of Time

http://www.toolerable.blogspot.com/2015/08/june-chair-build-finished-in-nick-of.html

Any yahoo can have a woodworking blog. Here's mi - LOOK! Wednesday, August 5, 2015. June Chair Build - Finished in the Nick of Time. Another day or two, and I wouldn't have finished this chair in June! All kidding aside, I'm glad I took the extra time to do this chair properly. Although it isn't perfect, I am very pleased with the shape and I learned a lot. Mostly thanks to Peter Galberts' book. Fumed oak leg with an elm wedge in the elm seat. Small chamfer on the feet. I used a block plane to chamfer th...

The land of the Kavango | Je ne sais quoi Woodworking

http://www.jenesaisquoiwoodworking.com/the-land-of-the-kavango

Je ne sais quoi Woodworking. Perambulations around my neck of the woods. The land of the Kavango. The reason for our annual safari is the waters of the ancient Okavango River. It originates on the eastern escarpment of the Angolan highlands before bisecting Namibia and Angola. A few kilometers from our camp it switches across the implantation of the Caprivian umbilical cord into Botswana to quench the eternal thirst of the Okavango Delta. OK, let’s go. This is a picture of a modern ossewa. We saw this in...

Stanley no. 66 beadingtool rehab | Je ne sais quoi Woodworking

http://www.jenesaisquoiwoodworking.com/stanley-no-66-beadingtool-rehab

Je ne sais quoi Woodworking. Rehabilitation of old tools. Stanley no. 66 beadingtool rehab. This is a pre-1900 Stanley no. 66 beader that I bought from Patrick Leach. If you consult the appropriate chapter. Of his epic work entitled “Patricks Blood and Gore”. You will find that pre-1900 beaders were japanned and later models were nickel plated. I got it bead-blasted to remove all the old japanning before redoing it with my usual sequence of potions. I wrote extensively about this in previous post. My fav...

Shop made Fidgenian frame saw – part 2 | Je ne sais quoi Woodworking

http://www.jenesaisquoiwoodworking.com/shop-made-fidgenian-frame-saw-part-two

Je ne sais quoi Woodworking. Shop made Fidgenian frame saw – part 2. Finally the next chapter in this fascinating series arrive to ease the eager anticipation of the woodworking proletariat. If you missed part one. Simply click the link. Since part one of this story I’ve realised that it is a lot more work than the previous two saws I’ve built. I built recently, followed by a Veritas spoke shave and it worked much better. I reassembled the saw to check that the chosen shapes work aesthetically. It simply...

http://www.jenesaisquoiwoodworking.com/and-there-was-light

Je ne sais quoi Woodworking. 8230; and there was light. Since my bench was finished a month or so ago, it has been a struggle to see what I am doing as it is located in a part of the shop which is devoid of light. Recently I bought this basic study lamp and attached it to a short board to improve it’s maneuverability. Here are a few pictures to show how it lightens up my life. Clamping it to the bench enables me to have it hanging over the bench’s edge. Shop made Roubo-esque crosscut bow saw. Enter your ...

Alaska Woodworker – The Alaska Woodworker. A hand tool wood working adventure in the Great Land. Old Tool Catalogs and Manuals. Tools & Such For Sale. Author Archives: Alaska Woodworker. It Took a While, But I Finished It. January 18, 2016. Many moons ago I started to build a 18th century style looking glass. After roughing out the scroll work I refined the shape with spoke shaves, chisels, gouges, rasps, and a bit of sandpaper. Posted in 18th Century Style Furniture. Tagged 18th Century Furniture. Carving – The Alaska Woodworker. A hand tool wood working adventure in the Great Land. Old Tool Catalogs and Manuals. Tools & Such For Sale. Spoon Carving with Peter – Day 2. May 3, 2015. So I will watch that and keep on carving. I only got a right hand hook knife when I ordered tools, but my friend Dohnn had a left hand that he let me borrow in class. It really helped with the hollowing so I think I will order one. Looks like several of us from will class will put in an order with Robin Wood. May 1, 2015.

I Found Out the Hard Way…. October 17, 2014. That the pin on a half mortise chest lock is not in the center of the lock! The lock is centered, but the escutcheon is not! Perhaps I should have read Glen Huey’s blog. Before I installed the lock. Oh well he found out the same way! Of course I used a router plane to install mine.
