Kriegsland - Development Blog: Java FX is a steaming pile of unusable crap
http://kriegsland.blogspot.com/2010/04/java-fx-is-teaming-pile-of-unusable.html
Saturday, April 3, 2010. Java FX is a steaming pile of unusable crap. Yes, harsh words but after having a quick go at it I am left with an incredibly bad taste in my mouth. I was trying to build a nice simple web app, just a few text boxes, nothing fancy, well, this is how my Java FX journey went. First stop was the website looking for examples. http:/ javafx.com/. Is that the only group of people JavaFX has been created for? Students looking to make incredibly bad looking graphical projects? Oh, and, ch...

Binary Refinery: Play Ruse, quick!
http://thebinaryrefinery.blogspot.com/2010/03/play-ruse-quick.html
Saturday, March 13, 2010. Play Ruse, quick! A short post to alert the world to the fact that RUSE, a new WW2 strategy game has a free beta currently on steam. I'd write more but my flu has rubbed me of all stamina. What will have to suffice is that RUSE is probably the first time that actual strategic level gameplay has worked, and it's set in WW2. So think supreme commader, as it should have been with the same feel as company of heroes. It's damn good, go try it now. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Binary Refinery: November 2009
http://thebinaryrefinery.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 9, 2009. Game Review - Brutal Legend. Tim Schafer, there's a name. It brings to mind the original Monkey Island games and Grim Fandango, some of my all time favorite games. His more recent offering psycho naughts was also pretty good from a design point of view but ultimately suffered from being a pretty standard platformer. Let's break it down. A lot has been said about the graphics in this and they are nice. The whole Metal theme is carried through well and there are some really ni...

Binary Refinery: August 2009

Monday, August 31, 2009. Game Review - Ben There, Dan That. Now, I am actually going to compare the graphics of this game with that of Tales of Monkey Island and I know what you are thinking, how is it fair to compare the graphics of game that like, three people worked on, to that of a full budget game? Additionally it had something that modern adventure games miss, custom animations! Nothing like a bit of physical humor in a game like this and good news, it's in there. Tuesday, August 25, 2009. I didn't...

Saturday, July 11, 2009. Samsung X460 Review - It's good to be the King. It's like Samsung are determined to have me starve to death. I almost bankrupted myself buying the x460 but I still think it was worth it. I even had to borrow money from my loan shark friend. (Alan). Every feature on the laptop surface is subdued and does not distract from your work but still has a pleasant aesthetic. The X460 is a solid laptop. Its pricey enough for the specs you get however, so if you are a spec head you migh...

Binary Refinery: Shure Se210 Sound Isolating Earphones Review - Sweet Silence
http://thebinaryrefinery.blogspot.com/2010/09/shure-se210-sound-isolating-earphones.html
Saturday, September 4, 2010. Shure Se210 Sound Isolating Earphones Review - Sweet Silence. I have these earphones almost six months now, so I'm in a good position to do a review. Now, when I first set out to buy my first high end set of buds I got a bit of a shock. Everything over forty euro seemed to be in-ear and while those usually sound fine I usually find my ears get sore after a long enough period of use which kind of prevents me from enjoying the music. The Agony of Choice:. So, should I buy them?

Binary Refinery: April 2010
http://thebinaryrefinery.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 4, 2010. I've never played much in the way of Text adventures, in a way I suppose they were before my time. I came into gaming at the high point of graphical adventure games, or the beginning of their descent depending on how you look at it. There does seem to be a fairly active online community for them, people brought up on Multi-User dungeons, Zork and that hitch hikers guide to the Galaxy game. One thing that surprises me is that lack of user tools however. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Binary Refinery: Shadowrun Returns - Review
http://thebinaryrefinery.blogspot.com/2013/08/shadowrun-returns-review.html
Tuesday, August 6, 2013. Shadowrun Returns - Review. Finally, it's a long time since I've actually finished a game like this, to be actually qualified to review one so I'm going to jump right in here and get to work. Shadowrun is an RPG of old school design, you navigate diaglogue tree, make moral decisions and command troops in turn based combat as you make your way through a cyberpunk story featuring evil corporations, morally ambiguous runners and spoiler alert, evil space bugs. There's enough story h...

Monday, June 22, 2009. X1060 32GB - S-Master in Sony's finest. The sound really is that rich and clear. Anyone who has ever used the Sony HiFi Amp would have known the S-Master Digital Amplifier (first introduced around 2005? Well there is a 5-band EQ with Clear Bass, VPT Surround Control (S-Master), DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement), and Clear stereo. To be honest, you only need the EQ, Clear Bass and VPT to bring out the goodness. The UI is very simple to use, on par with the ipod or any other player, n...
