danmusic: Wonder Man
http://danmusic.blogspot.com/2008/01/wonder-man.html
Wednesday, January 9. I didn't mind. I read Straight Man first and enjoyed it so much (it is hilarious) that I wanted to read it again straight away (but for the first time). And, by reading Wonder Boys, I was able to satisfy this paradoxical urge. Posted by dan at 10:10 PM. I noticed the blog is having trouble with the danmusic.gif header - probably because Nicholas hosting site might be having issues. Closely Observed Train Stations. danmusic: The Yiddish Policemen's Union
http://danmusic.blogspot.com/2011/06/review-six-yiddish-policemens-union.html
Wednesday, June 15. The Yiddish Policemen's Union. Michael Chabon - 4 1/2 stars. Belated book review project explained here. I enjoyed the hell out of this book. I'm a sucker for the hard-boiled format in the hands of a good literary writer (e.g. Lethem's Gun With Occasional Music. And Amis's Night Train. Add a waterlogged Alaskan landscape and a likable tough guy for a protagonist and you've got something pretty close to my perfect book. Posted by dan at 11:35 PM. Closely Observed Train Stations.

danmusic: Empire Falls
http://danmusic.blogspot.com/2011/07/empire-falls.html
Saturday, July 9. Richard Russo - 3 1/2 stars. Belated book review project explained here. At this rate, I'm reviewing books slower than I am reading them and I still have about 65 to go before I catch up. I've read a couple of other Russo books since this one and they all kind of blend in together. As far as I can remember, this one was fine but I wouldn't recommend it. Is much funnier and is definitely worth reading. Posted by dan at 11:13 PM. Closely Observed Train Stations. Do Cats Eat Bats?

Sunday, February 29. MY FAVORITE EX-PATRIOT AUSTRALIAN. Mel Gibson’s fetishization of the violence suffered by Christ has made over 100 million dollars. In its first few days here in the US. Scary. I’m guessing that Mel is pretty glad he changed his mind and decided to add subtitles over the Aramaic. I’m thinking that the subtitleless version would have been less lucrative. Another choice Mel quote. A monkey has a better chance of typing the Gettysburg Address than Jesus has of not being the messiah....

http://danmusic.blogspot.com/2011/09/will-microsoft-own-crowdsourcing.html
Wednesday, September 28. Will Microsoft Own Crowdsourcing? Cross-posted at the Center for Internet and Society. The patent application has a simple title: Crowdsourcing. Filed on May 18, 2009, the application is assigned to Microsoft and claims a computer-implemented crowdsourcing method. The claims. Seem very broad. Folks have noticed that Facebook has a pending application. The ownership of crowdsourcing seems like an important question. Crowdsourcing has been in the news. Although much attention has r...

danmusic: Review of Damned by Chuck Palahniuk
http://danmusic.blogspot.com/2012/01/review-of-damned-by-chuck-palahniuk.html
Monday, January 30. Review of Damned by Chuck Palahniuk. I'd never read Palahniuk before because I had been given the impression that his books were gimmicky and shallow. Boy was I was wrong. Gimmicky and shallow would be high praise for this pandering and meandering garbage. The satire is so trite that it makes Glenn Beck seem like a purveyor of subtle social commentary. And the book has the most ineptly handled final third and resolution that I have ever had the misfortune to read. Do Cats Eat Bats?
