Here Birds Sing: Haiku: a Review
http://herebirdssingpoetry.blogspot.com/2010/12/haiku-review.html
Poetry and related musings. Friday, December 3, 2010. It's time in this blog, to revisit my views and understanding of haiku. So what did I gain from a review? Quite a bit, even though my basic thinking on haiku hasn't changed. So I have been pointed to a vision of haiku different from mine but no less valid. In the same way, somebody referring to the Christian Bible as “great literature” does not take anything away from the faith of believers. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Bare In My Bones.

Word-Dreamer: poetics: March 2015
http://didiodatoc.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
I thrive by needing you, needing a culture of Internet readers and needing the only true networked freedom we've got (after Nina Paley). Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Says, reflecting on the skull's ipseity,. A killing arises that, while quite banal, leaves me alone,. That nobody knows day nor hour of-. If I expect you, you do arise ready and skinny out of the plains. I can't absent you from me. Dead with or without me, soaked in dialogue to the end, lying. Purplish as the jacaranda. Flesh Nothing beyond flesh.

Here Birds Sing: Oscar Wilde - Salome
http://herebirdssingpoetry.blogspot.com/2010/12/oscar-wilde-salome.html
Poetry and related musings. Tuesday, December 28, 2010. Oscar Wilde - Salome. I've fallen behind in saying the things I want to say in this space. Part of the reason for my procrastination has been the production of my own collection of poetry, a small volume with a “cat” theme. I'll get to that later, but there are some things I want to mention before I forget them. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Bare In My Bones. The Ontario Poetry Society. Here Birds Sing: Poetry, Lyrics, and Sondheim
http://herebirdssingpoetry.blogspot.com/2011/01/poetry-lyrics-and-sondheim.html
Poetry and related musings. Saturday, January 1, 2011. Poetry, Lyrics, and Sondheim. Sondheim claimed that the ambiguity inherent in his lyrics were not a deliberate poetic device but a means of expression demanded by the music and story or “book.” He explained that the “clowns” in his song “Send in the Clowns” from his musical A Little Night Music. On the other hand, he pointed out, the words that make up a poem, that drive it with its own special power, are not dependent on music; instead they have an ...

Here Birds Sing: January 2011
http://herebirdssingpoetry.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Poetry and related musings. Wednesday, January 5, 2011. But as I said, poetry is my drug of choice. I'm hooked and I can't quit. Sometimes I envy those writers who establish a reputation as a poet and then switch (with seeming ease) to novels that gather critical and popular acclaim. Sometimes I wonder if Atwood and Ondaatje were ever as dependent on the poetry drug as I seem to be. Imagine my surprise when one of my tales made the short list of the top ten of all the entries received! And that is also t...

Here Birds Sing: October 2010
http://herebirdssingpoetry.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Poetry and related musings. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Now what has this to do with poetry? On more than one occasion my delivery, my method of presentation, has been compared to that of a preacher. And that's not a bad thing. In poetry I want to involve much more than reason. I want to invoke an emotional response, even a spiritual one if you will. The greater the audience involvement is, the more the poem is poetry. Saturday, October 16, 2010. Sometimes small things irritate me. Somewhere in my first...

Here Birds Sing: July 2010
http://herebirdssingpoetry.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Poetry and related musings. Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Yesterday I learned about an interesting poetry related event happening in Bologna, Italy earlier this month. Let me explain the event as I understand it, with cycling and recitation becoming a traveling presentation of poetry to the unwary as part of a multicultural festival. This is known as the “poeciclettata,” or “poetandem” as the English language media expresses it. I love the idea! And then I imagine it happening here. Poetry for the people...

Here Birds Sing: May 2010
http://herebirdssingpoetry.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Poetry and related musings. Sunday, May 30, 2010. I told him I could understand that about musicians and their instruments in a public performance, even actors although they hid their real selves behind a character. A visual artist is exposed through the works hanging in public galleries, film makers etc. in theatres. But how do you make that work with writing, with the literary arts? Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Here Birds Sing: November 2010
http://herebirdssingpoetry.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Poetry and related musings. Tuesday, November 9, 2010. Several weeks ago I was honoured to take part in the launch of two anthologies of poetry. With the decrease of small literary magazines, such one-time projects have become more and more important in placing the work of younger and less established poets before the public; they are no longer, as they once were, simply selections of poems that would point a reader to other work by the collected authors. So both anthologies were produced for a purpose a...
