Just Kidding: Sprouts

Ramblings from jk and jk. When I planted several types of greens and herbs, the packages said sprouts would appear in approximately 14 days. I am happy to note that my mesclan and arugula have sprouted in four. Days I have to pull some though, because they are too close together. Poor little fellas. Now only if the herbs would make some appearance. The early sprouting action on the greens is making me nervous for the basil, cilantro, et al. Is there something wrong? Did I plant too early?

Ramblings from jk and jk. There is no land, either, but there is a balcony, and a window box filled with soil that fits perfectly on the railings. So far, I have sown various greens and herbs. In the next couple of weeks, there will be a variety of vegetables, mostly tomatoes, peppers, and chiles. Photos of thriving plants (hope this doesn't jinx me) to come in several weeks. Just Kidding: Lost for words

Ramblings from jk and jk. I just heard the news of this new ethanol plant. Closing. I know even the building of it was not well received from the local community, but even I thought at the time that it would be beneficial to the economy in some ways. (I personally think that producing ethanol for gas is not sustainable, so I too had many doubts initially.). I'm feeling shocked (although maybe I shouldn't), but mostly saddened for the community. Anyone closer have any thoughts? If only it were that simple.

Ramblings from jk and jk. Can you believe this? Really, the nerve of some people. Don't forget to check the best source out there for information on our presidential candidates. This also by itself really isn't the problem. It's that I forgot about a take-home midterm assigned before spring break that is due on Monday, another presentation I had this week, and a major portion to complete in a large group project due this weekend. So now I'm only in a reduced panic mode. 8 to 9 pm. Friends and other blogs.

Ramblings from jk and jk. Part of my job is tackling non-native, invasive species. Invasive species are a major threat to biodiversity. They have been considered a problem for a long, long time, often referred to as noxious, aggressive, and weeds. It was only in the late 1990's that a National Invasive Species Council. Ramblings from jk and jk. The grass is greener on the other side. The link below is a 20-min video of consumer goods, how it gets from one place to another and many of the externalities associated with it. Normally I wouldn't forward these types of videos, but the woman, Anne Leonard, does a good job narrating and I found it hard to not watch. The parent site has a lot of other great stuff about the environment. Http:/ www.storyofstuff.com/. Http:/ www.biertijd.com/mediaplayer/? Would be clever though.
