Traveling Outside the Lines (Tikal: An ancient Mayan city)

http://travelingoutsidethelines.com/post/21189777114/tikal-an-ancient-mayan-city

Traveling Outside the Lines. Tikal: An ancient Mayan city. Although Flores is a cool place in itself, the main reason anybody goes there is as a base for getting to Tikal, the ancient Mayan ruin site. We ended up not taking a guided tour and just wandering around with the help of an inaccurate map. One of the coolest things about these ruins is that they’re amongst a jungle, so you’d be walking through trees and then suddenly see the peak of a pyramid appear out of nowhere, like this:.

Traveling Outside the Lines (A Guatemalan photo shoot)

Traveling Outside the Lines. A Guatemalan photo shoot. This one’s for my SCH marketing girls and Aunt Gloria :). Who would have thought that I’d quit my job in hospital marketing to go to Guatemala, yet end up at a marketing photo shoot anyway? My friend, Diego, owns a graphic design and marketing company, so he was overseeing this shoot of horses who’d come from Spain. From what I could understand, they wanted to market these horses for competitions.

Traveling Outside the Lines (Bigger-picture Xela)

http://travelingoutsidethelines.com/post/20926804301/bigger-picture-xela

Traveling Outside the Lines. The last post featured details around Xela, so now I’ll show some broad shots of the city. It’s the second-largest city in Guatemala and was the most “real” town I saw while in Guatemala. There are very few tourists there (other than Spanish students and volunteers like me) so it was a great way to practice Spanish and become immersed in the lifestyle. As I think I mentioned before, Xela is in a valley, surrounded by several mountains and volcanoes:.

Traveling Outside the Lines. Graffiti and other cool things in the streets of Xela. I saw these on two separate days, on opposite sides of town:. This was all over a particular building - it says “Danger! Not sure what this is but I thought it was cool:. I passed this building every day after school and liked how the walls looked like you could peel them off:.

Traveling Outside the Lines

Traveling Outside the Lines. Saturday at the market. Almolonga is a small town outside of Xela where the majority of its indigenous Mayan population speaks K'iche’ and vegetables are cultivated in mass. The market was huge - selling things in bulk for people from near and far. I somehow arrived in the land of chocolate. I swear I didn’t know it before I arrived in Xela, but I was definitely excited when I learned that the town is known for chocolate. While I was excited about the chocolate, I was disappo...

My own travel out. Another story of a married man coming to terms with his reality. Bumps on the parallel highway. July 27, 2012. So the highway of life on this team is pretty much parallel to the highway I’ve been on my whole life. Bumps, cracks, chasms even, exist along the way. The only differences are the catalysts that cause them. I’ll tell you up front I’m begging for feedback from you as you complete your read of the post. I don’t know the answer and I don’t know how I come to deal wit...8220;That...

The Traveling Overeducated Housewife

The Traveling Overeducated Housewife. Wednesday, August 19, 2015. One thing I tend to do well is plan trips. As I have mentioned before, I am determined not to take our time in Europe for granted this time. I want to go places and see things. That means we need to travel. The problem is, there are so many places I want to see and things I want to do. We have the champagne bucket. For the times when we can't decide. The next trip, which will be to Austria. The Baltics- We did go to Tallin, Estonia and Bil...
