A new song.... ~ FOOTPRINTS ON THE SANDS OF TIME
http://traveltalesfromchennai.blogspot.com/2012/03/new-song.html
Monday, March 12, 2012. I have been travelling a lot in Eastern and Central Europe which I prefer to Western Europe any day. One of my favourite cities here is Tallinn, Estonia which is still an under-rated destination. Its easy to reach by ferry from Helsinki which is what I did. Old Town is a delectable warren of gingerbread houses, terracotta rooftops, cobblestone streets, turrets and spires and a UNESCO World Heritage site today. I visited the Town hall Pharmacy (with its intriguing symbol of a cup w...
UNDER-RATED DESTINATION: SRI LANKA ~ FOOTPRINTS ON THE SANDS OF TIME
http://traveltalesfromchennai.blogspot.com/2011/03/under-rated-destination-sri-lanka.html
Thursday, March 17, 2011. UNDER-RATED DESTINATION: SRI LANKA. I am often asked: what is the most under-rated destination that you have been to. My reply would be Sri Lanka with its stellar combination of World Heritage sites, wildlife, history, rich culture, terrific hotels, friendly people and a friendlier currency. Over the last two years I have made several trips to this neighbouring country and would love to go back to explore the rest. My top SL experiences have been:. Climbing the Sigiriya Rock.

OFFBEAT DUBLIN- Museum of Natural History ~ FOOTPRINTS ON THE SANDS OF TIME
http://traveltalesfromchennai.blogspot.com/2013/04/offbeat-dublin-museum-of-natural-history.html
Saturday, April 27, 2013. OFFBEAT DUBLIN- Museum of Natural History. This was my second trip to Dublin, and I was determined to see Dublin beyond the usual pubs and literary heritage. My guide Mairtin walked me through Georgian neighbourhoods and suddenly took a detour on Merrion Street to show me a place that he had loved as a child. I even saw a polar bear shot by an explorer with the bullet mark intact. And the best for the last, the museum is free of charge! I would love your feedback! I have been tr...
Unique Rock Church, Helsinki ~ FOOTPRINTS ON THE SANDS OF TIME
http://traveltalesfromchennai.blogspot.com/2013/03/unique-rock-church-helsinki.html
Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Unique Rock Church, Helsinki. One of the most unique modern churches that I have visited is the incredible. Temppeliaukio Church also called the Rock Church in Helsinki, Finland. This church was built by brothers Timo and Tuomo and opened in 1969. Church was built out of a solid rock outcrop. The Church has an extraordinary, ethereal, dome made of gleaming copper wire, and concrete beams with glass in an amazing design. The rough walls of raw rock gleaming in the light of. Its a...

THE ORIGINAL HOME OF THE TULIP. Baskets of aromatic spices, soaring minarets, the myriad waterways, mosques with exquisite domes and mystic whirling dervishes, this city has mesmerised me. But the surprise element has been the rows and rows of tulips.in varied hues and patterns adorning this photogenic city on water. A tulip festival.in Istanbul? The flower has inspired many poems, calligraphy, songs and paintings. Even today you can see the tulip on the official logo of Turkish Tourism. My interest in t...

Tallinn, land of startups and Skype, is making an epic transformation. I have my picture in naval uniform taken, and sure enough, it is sent to my email account. On my last day in Tallinn, I walk past tumescent towers to the old Town Square all lit up, casting mysterious shadows on the sprawl of open air bars. I sip on a mulled wine and I realise that fairy tales never get old: they are re-invented and told with a modern twist.Tallinn is just that - a fairy tale re-told. Published in First Post, 2012.

SPIN LIKE A DERVISH/ LIFE S A WHIRL. SPIN LIKE A DERVISH/ LIFE S A WHIRL. Dancing is not rising to your feet painlessly like a speck of dust blown around in the wind Dancing is when you rise above both worlds tearing your heart to pieces and giving up your soul. Jelalludin Rumi. In the old Sirceki area of Istanbul. Four dancers enter the room slowly in their flowing white skirts and immaculate white coats, long hats called sikkes. Was meant to release the soul from earthly ties and enable it to communica...
