35 is the defining age. Sunday, 6 November 2016. Being comfortable with uncomfortable. Came across this great article online from Pocket recommendations sometime this week and it resonated loads with me. It was on exercising and the gist of it was how exercise could be one of the many keystone habits that help improve one's quality of living. Anyhow, here's the link to the article below. It's a great read and I do hope it provides you with a dose of inspiration in the coming weeks.

35 is the defining age: April 2016

35 is the defining age. Tuesday, 5 April 2016. On stretches of weeks like these, it seems that the only thing I'm living and working for is to F.I.R.E. A lull in motivation requires an increased level of patience with the bullshit that's constantly perpetuating in the workplace (it's like the freaking Kraken - the more you try to kill it, the larger it grows), and an added dose of naivety could certainly help in paving the way forward. Sunday, 3 April 2016. The Limited Use of Willpower. When I was a teen...

35 is the defining age: A Guide to the Good Life - William B Irvine

35 is the defining age. Sunday, 10 July 2016. A Guide to the Good Life - William B Irvine. Just completed a first read of the aforementioned book and thought it might be wise to jot down a few quick observations and notes. Some of the traditional psychological Stoic techniques that were discussed in great detail were:. There are also other strategies and thoughts on dealing with status, admiration, insults, anger, temporary discomfort, self-discipline, amongst others, which are extremely interesting, ins...

35 is the defining age. Sunday, 24 May 2015. I could flip the bird and "retire" now, but. This is going to be a long post. I did think quite a bit over whether I should actually do a post on this, given this. Is a first world problem, but I figured articulation of my thoughts might prove helpful to myself and it might be useful to folks who are embarking on the FIRE path in realising some of the challenges and downsides FIRE might yield. I spent some time ruminating about why I would have felt this way&#...

35 is the defining age: June 2016

35 is the defining age. Sunday, 26 June 2016. The Best Part about Summer. You know it's the start of the summer holidays when you see a bunch of bright eyed college undergraduates swaddled with clothing that looks a tad too formal for them walking down the hallways of the trading floor, looking a little too enthusiastic for the countless beatings that will come over what may be the longest months ahead of their lives to come. Saturday, 18 June 2016. Update after the hiatus. I've pretty much adopted the m...

35 is the defining age: 2015 - My Year in Review (Part 1)
http://retireby35-sgstyle.blogspot.com/2015/12/2015-my-year-in-review-part-1.html
35 is the defining age. Saturday, 26 December 2015. 2015 - My Year in Review (Part 1). The best thing I like about December ain't much about the festivities surrounding X'mas and the New Year. It ain't about the perceived break that one gets when people wind down at year end. In fact, I've been pretty busy over the last couple of weeks, as you can see from the lack of activity on this medium. In short, 2015 marked my 30th birthday on this realm, and was a pretty tough year at that. A year of sufferin...

35 is the defining age: Investment Banking in Bear Markets

35 is the defining age. Saturday, 22 August 2015. Investment Banking in Bear Markets. A couple days ago, amidst the rout in the global stock markets that have been plaguing us through the summer, one of the Managing Directors walked around the banking floor, and announced: "This is it boys, the summer of 2008 is repeating itself. Embrace the fun times, for you wouldn't know how long it lasts". Fast forward 7 years. Is this really 2008 all over again? Ahhh, the life. Time for a solid cuppa coffee :).

35 is the defining age. Sunday, 20 March 2016. Beware - The Ego Trap. One of the pitfalls that many people encounter when embarking onto something novel in a bid to for self improvement is this very thing called the ego trap. The more commonly used abbreviation could be something along the lines of "one-upmanship", or constant comparison and thinking that one human being is better than another because of [x]. So how can one manage his ego better? Thursday, 17 March 2016. Was digging up old photos for one...

35 is the defining age. Monday, 25 July 2016. New Goal for the 2016 Singapore Marathon. I've done a couple of these long distance events, most of them just to tick the box of having had been there and done that, and some repeat events just to work on personal best times. Now here comes the crux of the decision, I'll be focusing 100% on the process this time (or die trying), of training consistently over the next 17 weeks or so. Sunday, 10 July 2016. A Guide to the Good Life - William B Irvine. I found th...

35 is the defining age: Self talk and the transient nature of all things
http://retireby35-sgstyle.blogspot.com/2016/10/self-talk-and-transient-nature-of-all.html
35 is the defining age. Sunday, 23 October 2016. Self talk and the transient nature of all things. Been a while since I last posted. Things have been extremely busy and it's been a challenge sticking to the fitness goals. Feels somewhat like a first year Analyst all over again but with better coping mechanisms (that's the only way to survive - sink or swim). I highly recommend picking up one of his books and picking up the practice. The one that I am reading now is "Search Inside Yourself". Self talk and...
