FellBound: September 2014

The ramblings and rantings of a 50s something hill walker. Monday, 29 September 2014. Z Packs Hexamid Duplex. Side view showing the non-zip overlapping doors. A clever idea. Will they be flappy in wind? They appear to be pretty taught when fastened properly. Two vestibules and two entrances, which is a highly desirable design feature. And its nest, but the former was just too narrow, and it's an expensive combination. I considered the Six Moons Designs Haven Tarp plus nest. Right that's almost your lot, ...

The ramblings and rantings of a 50s something hill walker. Thursday, 12 February 2015. A Frozed Up Angle Tarn. So yesterday evening I says to Hyperdog Moss “Where do you fancy going for walkies tomorrow? So I had to choose. The day being claggy and generally yucky we decided not to drive too far and to stay relatively low, so we walked from Patterdale to Angle Tarn via Boredale Hause, as you do, it being the obvious way to go. There was a lot more snow than this but that was until Hyperdog ate most of it.

Random wafflings about crochet, photography, and life in general. West Highland Way Day 8 Kinlochleven to Fort William (15 miles). Such a weird feeling: in one way it felt like the whole thing had gone by so quickly, yet in another way it felt like I had been walking forever. I had very mixed feelings – happy at the thought of achieving what I’d set out to do but also sad that the West Highland Way would be over by the end of today ……. With today being a long 15 mile day and my feet already being tired, ...

The ramblings and rantings of a 50s something hill walker. Friday, 24 April 2015. TGO Challenge 2015 Gear. Not on my gear list - but the Tipsy Laird at Kingussie features on my route plan. Well it's a bit disappointing. Are this year's TGO Challengers being less anal than in previous years? Either I have missed them or there has been a remarkable absence of gear lists being published on the Internet Thingy Me Bob. TGOC 2015 Kit list. ULA Catalyst Lowe Alpine Pack Cover. Z Packs Arc Blast. Rohan Ultralite...

The ramblings and rantings of a 50s something hill walker. Wednesday, 3 June 2015. TGO Challenge 2015: Wining, dining and sleeping. Essential re-hydration in the Tipsy Laird, Kingussie. Now I love my food, but my approach on backpacking trips to eating has always been functional and basic. Lots of brews, and lots of hot food, the simpler and quicker to cook the better, ideally with no washing up. Brewing up in the early morning on Day 2. Camping by the Allt Coire a Charra, first night out. My second nigh...

The ramblings and rantings of a 50s something hill walker. Saturday, 23 August 2014. Then I bought a slightly lighter pair of boots for summer, and a heavier pair for winter, before moving about two years ago also to use trail shoes, and I have worked my way through a number of pairs of these, each a different make or model, but sometimes I still go out in boots. What's the point of this? Monday, 18 August 2014. Ascent to madness: In which I climb up my own backside. 8220;When counting the grams for cook...
