Song Lyrics Quiz meme. As seen on Facebook ( http:/ www.facebook.com/note.php? I'm bored, so I may as well do this: Set your music player of choice to random, post the 1st line (or so) of N songs (that have lyrics), see who can guess them. As is to be expected, using Google or some other search engine is cheating. 1) "I seen a girl on a one-way corridor, stealing down a wrong-way street" - Skateaway. 2) "When you hear the sound a-comin, hear the drummers drummin'" Come Together. Rocky Horror Picture Show.

This year, I have flung myself into the Hugo awards as never before, partially because of things being slow enough at work that I really needed things to read online, and partially because of the encouragement of. And the other Fanzine Loungers. So far, I've read not only all of the Best Novel nominees (my comments on some of them here. The Erdmann Nexus by Nancy Kress. This was one of the two that I liked. I very much enjoyed Nancy Kress' novel Beggars in Spain. I am very fond of Perdido Street Station.

Free vs. Pay. Mar 30th, 2010 at 9:08 AM. I have a free LJ account. Which means, when I sign-on, there's a 45 second advert in my face every time. I've developed the habit of opening a quick game, or turning away to something else for that time, thus robbing them of my eyeballs. However this doesn't lessen the minor frustration which sent me to adopt this new habit. 6 comments Leave a comment. Mar 30th, 2010 04:32 pm (UTC). Then again, trivial and shallow seems to be what society is trending towards.

Them out and replaced them with a crimp connector. I botched the first application, but finally got dialtone back on all the...

Wistful smile* - ewhac. 08 September 2010 @ 01:09 am. Lest you think from the previous post that I'm all doomy and gloomy, some nice things have happened. If you've been closely following. S various ramblings, you'll know that the nest recently emptied, and she got her own bedroom back. She's been planning for this for years, and has swiftly transformed the room into a very hospitable space. And then she made a warm, pleasant space even more soothing by tuning the radio to KCEA.

Hugo Best Novelette Nominees: zahraa

Hugo Best Novelette Nominees. Wow I was so annoyed at the quality of the Best Novella nominees that I almost stopped reading. But the Best Novelette nominees have been much better, and I am encouraged. It's much more difficult to rank nominees when you don't despise any of them! Perhaps there is a future for science fiction after all. The Ray-Gun: A Love Story by James Alan Gardner. Sexism, but other nominees were quite a bit better. The Gambler by Paolo Bacigalupi. But it is still quite enjoyable. Confe...
