Still kicking and haven't lost power yet. The eye is about 30 minutes to an hour away. It's pretty damn yucky out here, but definitely survivable. From "Crust and Crumb: Master Formulas for Serious Bread Bakers" by Peter Reinhart. 4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour. 2 tsp baking poder. 3/4 tsp baking soda. 1 1/2 cups currants or raisins (optional). 2 cups brown sugar, packed. 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, cold. 1/2 cup buttermilk, cold. 1 large egg for egg wash.

From the Williams-Sonoma "Bread" Cookbook. I always think this should be re-named Beer Butter Bread, its so buttery! 3 cups (15 oz/470 g) unbleached flour. 3 T firmly packed light brown sugar. 1 T baking powder. 1 bottle (12 fl oz/375 ml) beer, unopened and at room temperature. Tags: beer batter bread.
