Tsukuba Science City: 24 Hours
http://elias-in-tsukuba.blogspot.com/2007/04/24-hours.html
In about 24 hours I’ll have passed through the passport control at Narita airport. I’m in a very odd mood. I’m extremely excited about seeing those that matter most to me again. But part of me wants to stay here and does not want to leave. Last night my work colleagues celebrated my farewell (this time really). I’ll miss them. I’d like to take them with me. Here is a picture taken last night. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). London, United Kingdom. View my complete profile. Things to do in Tokyo.

I just got back from my first honeymoon. Gwen and I spent two wonderful weeks mainly in Tokyo and Kyoto area. Back in the office my todo list seems long enough to keep me occupied for the rest of the year, but my head is still full of wonderful memories. Each piece was different and more delicious than the previous. The fish was so fresh that it was almost scary. We had our own cook and were sitting right in front of him! Of course not all Japanese are so friendly. In particular we noticed some rathe...

I’m constantly learning…. So far I’ve often ordered more or less randomly from the menu in restaurants. I’ve learned not to do that anymore, because the person sitting on the next table was served a dish that was still moving. And the animal (I think it was an octopus or something like that) was not just moving a bit, but it was moving a lot! And it kept on moving for a long time. I need to remember what the Japanese word is for food that is still moving…. The glasses are filled until the rim, every time!

Wow, 3 months have passed like 3 weeks. Saturday I'm Vienna. I might not have many chances to check my emails until Monday in a week. Last weekend Doug, his wife, another American, and me walked up the Tsukuba hill (. Here are some pictures. The first is the karaoke machine (the phone book is a book full of Japanese songs). The second shows the car which that plant was trying to cover up. (Unfortunately the gardeners recently decided to stop it.) The rest of the pictures is from the walk. Anyway, what I ...

I took this picture just a few seconds ago, right after sunset. Its the view from my window. As usual my camera didn't get the colors right, but it might give you an idea of what the real thing looked like :-).

Tsukuba Science City: 03/2007
http://elias-in-tsukuba.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
It's been exactly one year now since my arrival. I remember that the first thing I did after my arrival was to start working on a paper for a conference. Right now I'm working on a paper for the exactly same conference. Some things never change :-). When I first visited Japan (in 2002) I was very fascinated but I felt that it isn't a place I would want to live forever. I still feel the same way. I'll always be happy to come back, but it's not my world. A picture I took on my way to work today. I bet you ...

Tsukuba Science City: Things to do in Tokyo
http://elias-in-tsukuba.blogspot.com/2007/04/things-to-do-in-tokyo.html
Things to do in Tokyo. Yesterday I had a great time walking around in Tokyo with Sebastian and Bee Suan. If you ever get a chance to visit Tokyo, I’d recommend:. If you can handle it (many think these videos are disgusting and disturbing), you might want to see how some Japanese like to eat fish: video. If I understood this correctly, it's all about demonstrating that the fish is as fresh as it can be. This comes in many variations, if you search for "living sashimi" you should find many more videos.
