The story of a bike and a stubborn cyclist

The story of a bike and a stubborn cyclist. Those who wish to control their own lives, and move beyond existence as mere clients and consumers - those people ride a bike." Wolfgang Sachs. Friday, February 22, 2013. I heard an interesting podcast recently, called the Morality of Cycling. The podcast was Thinking Allowed, from BBC Radio 4. This is the link. In the April 2012 issue of Sociology. Video is at this link. So cycling = moral, but cyclists = evil. Here's the citation and abstract for the article.

The story of a bike and a stubborn cyclist. Those who wish to control their own lives, and move beyond existence as mere clients and consumers - those people ride a bike." Wolfgang Sachs. Wednesday, August 09, 2006. Bancroft - The Death and Life of Great Canadian Small Towns. I had a bit of a go at Oshawa and Whitby recently, and having just returned from my hometown of Bancroft, Ontario, I thought I'd muse about the homeland as well. In 2004, TVO's Studio 2. Along the lines of the Earth Ship. Homes, the...

The story of a bike and a stubborn cyclist. Those who wish to control their own lives, and move beyond existence as mere clients and consumers - those people ride a bike." Wolfgang Sachs. Sunday, June 25, 2006. Easter Island - Why Civilizations Fail. Annalise and I recently read. A Short History of Progress. When Captain Cook arrived around 1772 there were only a "ragged few" (to cheat off Shakespeare) left, and these were the warrior class - those who had survived by killing their neighbours and even re...

The story of a bike and a stubborn cyclist. Those who wish to control their own lives, and move beyond existence as mere clients and consumers - those people ride a bike." Wolfgang Sachs. Sunday, July 30, 2006. Stephen Hawking and "The Great Escape". Stephen Hawking gave a speech in Hong Kong. He was then a guest "questioner" on Yahoo Answers. Which apparently has been publicizing their service by having people like Hawking, Al Gore and Bono ask big. So what does it mean that Hawking. While people are re...

The story of a bike and a stubborn cyclist: Come see the blood in the streets

The story of a bike and a stubborn cyclist. Those who wish to control their own lives, and move beyond existence as mere clients and consumers - those people ride a bike." Wolfgang Sachs. Thursday, August 24, 2006. Come see the blood in the streets. It's probably similar to what native americans must have felt, looking out over a plain of buffalo, massacred to drive the natives away. A poem which has always stuck with me is Pablo Neruda's I'm Explaining a Few Things. I'm Explaing a Few Things. In the for...

The story of a bike and a stubborn cyclist: Cyclist reflects on death and cows

The story of a bike and a stubborn cyclist. Those who wish to control their own lives, and move beyond existence as mere clients and consumers - those people ride a bike." Wolfgang Sachs. Tuesday, July 11, 2006. Cyclist reflects on death and cows. Although I'm tempted to do a post titled "The Ride's Yucky Bits" where I'd take photos to go along with that post titled "The Ride's Nice Bits," I won't bore you with pictures of downtown Toronto streets and Highway 7. And then there's this little white cross.

September 1, 2006. Leon Steber’s North American Bicycle Journey. 8212; Rockjaw @ 10:26 pm. In my wildest dreams, I’d do something like Leon Steber did. Cycle around North America (that’ll include Canada and Alaska, folks) for almost eight months. Continuously. Without, apparently, much direction. Except, you know, onwards. This guy’s dedication to a cause is exemplary. Or, possibly, insane. Or both. Not only has he written about every. One feels extreme anger (ANGER! All I can think is ‘Keep on rid...

September 22, 2006. 8212; Rockjaw @ 8:31 am. I feel like a chump. Yesterday morning was glorious sunshine, and I didn’t go out because on Wednesday night, I felt knackered enough that I figured I deserved a lie-in. Rainstorms. This morning? Still raining and still cold. So no riding, after I told myself that I would go out. I am a wuss. But I am a dry,. 1 Comment ». April 27, 2007. Not dead; still riding. 8212; Rockjaw @ 10:29 pm. Well hey. Umm, so. Thanks to Leon for reminding me this blog exists. I hadn’t forgotten, really, but I’d certainly let it lie fallow. Quite a lot happened, too, in the biking sense, and in a small way I feel a little bad about it. But let’s review. Oh, and I didn’t enter the London to Brighton bike ride this year. I’m. Not ready. Next year? 3 Comments ». I hope you are still riding! 8212; March 5, 2009 @ 9:14 am. Feed for comments on this ...

Pedalmaniac: March 2006

http://pedalmaniac.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 24, 2006. I have friends that are single parents. I have always thought it is the toughest job in the world. I have a wife and two kids. We can distribute the work. This week I have been a single parent. E. is on a business trip. She is excited about it. I am excited for her. I was also excited because I get to spend uninterrupted time with the kids. I had a plan, drive them to daycare and then ride the rest of the way to work. Only one day to heavily plan, Saturday. Then one got sick.
