The Tapps' Turkish Travels. Monday, March 11, 2013. Antalya Part 3: Museum and Falez. Justin) After the previous day's adventure, we went to Antalya city as an entire family. This was about a 30 minute ride on the bus which came by our resort every 20 minutes. We met Gülnur, my friend and long-time language helper, who wanted to show us her city. First stop was the Antalya Museum. The Tapp family in front of the museum. After lunch, we got some spectacular views of the waterfalls above the "falez" (from ...

The Tapps' Turkish Travels: Our Turkish world visits us in Tennessee!
http://tappsturkishtravels.blogspot.com/2013/05/our-turkish-world-visits-us-in-tennessee.html
The Tapps' Turkish Travels. Tuesday, May 28, 2013. Our Turkish world visits us in Tennessee! Last week, we had the privilege of hosting some of Justin's former teaching colleagues from Büyük Kolej. At Justin's parents' home in Tennessee. A group of high schoolers competed in Destination Imagination's Global Finals in Knoxville. It was fun to host a group in a real American neighborhood so they could see houses and grassy yards (instead of apartments) in the suburbs. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Tapps' Turkish Travels: Ulus and Hamamönü
http://tappsturkishtravels.blogspot.com/2013/03/ulus-and-hamamonu.html
The Tapps' Turkish Travels. Tuesday, March 19, 2013. The day after returning to Ankara from Antalya, I gave my dad a tour of Ulus. Ulus is truly the "old town" of Ankara. And my favorite part of the city. We took the dolmuş from our neighborhood to the covered pazar. From the pazar we walked through the metalworks district and up the steep streets where other vendors peddle their wares on our way to the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. From the museum we walked to get some photos of the Ankara Kalesi.

Justin) We're behind in posting because we've been busy moving to the U.S. Eventually, we'll post pictures of my parents' visit and our trip to Antalya. We had plenty of goodbyes from friends before we left. Some of our friends graciously are housing many of our household items in the hope that we'll be back in August, or sometime soon enough. A LONG time (2-hour delay in Chicago waiting for our plane to be de-iced!

The Tapps' Turkish Travels. Thursday, January 17, 2013. Book Review: The Yogurt Man Cometh by Kevin Revolinski. Some friends of ours lent us a copy of The Yogurt Man Cometh: Tales of an American Teacher in Turkey. As it's a humorous read about an American's crash course in living in Ankara and teaching at the same school where Justin teaches. We highly. Recommend the book to anyone living in Ankara or coming here for the first time. Tuesday, January 8, 2013. First Big Snow in Ankara. Despite children eve...

The Tapps' Turkish Travels: How to handle downed power lines-- only in Turkey!
http://tappsturkishtravels.blogspot.com/2013/03/how-to-handle-downed-power-lines-only.html
The Tapps' Turkish Travels. Saturday, March 16, 2013. How to handle downed power lines- only in Turkey! Justin) On our next bus trip from Beldibi to Antalya we suddenly came to a stop. It became clear that both sides of the 4-lane highway had been closed for perhaps an hour. Our hearts kinda sank as it looked like we'd be stuck for a while. I wouldn't have had the guts to hold that line, and we sincerely hope that this guy lived to tell the story. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Happy 4th of July!

The Tapps' Turkish Travels. Monday, March 18, 2013. Antalya Part 5: Aspendos and Serik. Justin) We were determined to explore more historical places while on this side of Turkey. Myra. Was disappointingly too far from Beldibi by the bus system, but Aspendos. Was a workable day trip. Dad and I caught the first morning bus to Antalya, taking it into the bus station. From there, it was another bus on about an 80 minute ride to the town of Serik. The city ruins from one of the hills. You can also see the ama...
