Two-Lane Blacktop: July 2011

http://twolaneblacktop.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Old highways and towns keep me on the back roads. Sunday, July 10, 2011. I rode with my friend Steve from Scooter In the Sticks. This weekend. We put on a few miles. Steve rides a Vespa most days, but today he had a Triumph Scrambler. On loan from Kissel Motor Sports. When I was looking for that first bike four years ago, the Scrambler topped my list. It's simple design embodied what I was looking for in a motorcycle. It still does. But that classic boxer engine of the old BMWs won out. Links to this post.

Two-Lane Blacktop: September 2009

http://twolaneblacktop.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Old highways and towns keep me on the back roads. Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Basement bars have always had a special place in my heart. Perhaps that's why I never really found my home in Seattle. Their bars weren't dirty enough. Sure, Linda’s had a great jukebox, and I'm fairly certain that the floors of the Comet went unswept for the nine years I lived there, but they were surface level and lacked the character and wisdom that can only be found at the bottom of a flight of stairs. Two-Lane Blacktop: Idiot Lights

Old highways and towns keep me on the back roads. Thursday, September 22, 2011. My instrument panel, simple as it is, works together to let me know what the bike wants. But its main function is to remind me of my exact level of incompetence. The bike has a speedometer, a tach, and a strip of lights. There is a flashing amber light for the signals. If ignored, the bike makes sure that everyone on the road knows that I am an idiot. Check the dip stick. I guess I could take Steve's. Advice and get a modern ...

Two-Lane Blacktop: March 2009

http://twolaneblacktop.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Old highways and towns keep me on the back roads. Monday, March 16, 2009. CSI In My Backyard. No matter how good the riding weather, never turn a blind eye to yard work. Otherwise… things happen. Reported missing three years ago, could this be the estranged wife of Ken and beloved friend of Skipper? After her disappearance from her Malibu Penthouse in 2005, investigators were left with few clues and a toy industry that quickly closed ranks. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Eurastus travels slowly: Took the Long Way To Work

http://eurastus.blogspot.com/2009/03/took-long-way-to-work.html

Friday, March 13, 2009. Took the Long Way To Work. I took the long way to work this morning, with a little swing out on the farmland flats to the west of town. Today it was a balmy 27° and felt fine. It sure was nice to enjoy the early morning farm roads. Early mornings are awesome, for sure. I spent a bit of time on the single cylinder 650. It felt sort of like a tractor engine under me. How is the twin for smooth? Anything you especially love? Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 9:45:00 PM MDT.

Eurastus travels slowly: Airguns

http://eurastus.blogspot.com/2009/03/airguns.html

Thursday, March 12, 2009. Airgun shooting is a subject near and dear to my heart. I shoot airguns many evenings in my basement (6 meter range) or out in the garage (full 10 meters), sometimes with my boys. In fact, I just got done with shooting 120 shots from my air pistol (FWB 103) on the 10 meter range. What if you want to get into air rifle target shooting with a budget? If you want information from the experts themselves, get yourself to the TargetTalk forum at http:/ targettalk.org/. Having said all...

Eurastus travels slowly: da Vinci Tandems

http://eurastus.blogspot.com/2007/08/da-vinci-tandems.html

Friday, August 17, 2007. I've been a serious cyclist for about 30 years now, with most of my miles on the road but significant mountain bike time several years ago. Up until a few years ago, I'd only ridden a tandem bicycle a few times; being a paid bike wrench for over 10 years as a youth gave me several opportunities. Only one ride was for more than 20 miles.and that was more than 25 years ago. And the gear range is absolutely HUGE! However, I prefer the 700c wheels we have on the latest tandem. Th...

Friday, December 05, 2008. New BMW at the 'rastus house. My last post, lo this many months ago, announced the TW200's arrival. Well, I finally went and got rid of the BMW F650GS Dakar like I said I would.only I traded it in on a new BMW F800GS. I just couldn't go without a nice BMW in the house. Links to this post. Eurastus travels slowly: April 2008

http://eurastus.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 09, 2008. I've been traveling too fast lately. As it turns out, the BMW is too big and too fast for what I really wanted to use it for. It's great on the road, but I want something for slow, off-road exploring. I've found this Yamaha TW200. Now I'm ready to go exploring all the places the BMW is unable to comfortably get to. Eurastus travels slowly: October 2007

http://eurastus.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 07, 2007. Wellthere's another two-wheeled vehicle at the 'rastus house. I've wanted a BMW F650GS Dakar. However, on the new BMW, it was a pleasure indeed. I enjoyed the cool, crisp morning and the lack of fellow travelers on the way up. I had no trouble handling the bike even at slow speeds and on sketchy surfaces. I'm very happy; the Dakar is exactly what I'd hoped it'd be. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Utah County, Utah, United States. View my complete profile.

Eurastus travels slowly: June 2007

http://eurastus.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 25, 2007. 22 vs 9000; Horsepower, that is. Most mornings, when I take the direct path to work, I pass the local Union Pacific. Switching yards. This small yard serves several short-line railroads, most notably long Utah Railway. Coal trains, along with the big yellow UP itself. I'm a long-time railfan, being enamored of big traction engines since childhood, when my dad bought me a small AT&SF. This morning, three matching UP EMD SD40-2. Links to this post. Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Where Not to Ride. I was out for a spin on the GTV the other morning and came upon this large sign. I've seen several with a similar message over the years and thought some of you city-folk would get a kick out of the "rugged individualism" one runs into out here in the Wild West. Note the lowest line on the sign. It makes me wonder if the property owner intends to shoot as I scoot. Links to this post. Monday, July 23, 2007. Noggin Cover and Podcasts. Eurastus travels slowly: May 2007

http://eurastus.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 31, 2007. As my first full day commuting with the scooter, I was up and on the road just as the sun peeked over the mountains. Nice and quiet. Gotta' love it. The only people I saw for the first several miles away from home were the dutiful morning joggers; several of the young mothers in the neighborhood seem rather determined to run every day, rain or shine. Thankfully for them, and for me, today was nothing but shine. In fact, I didn't see a car until I hit Main Street. Links to this post.

Saturday, August 8, 2015. Two Lane Adventure to "Podunk" and Back. Did you know that Connecticut has a Lovers Leap? The market in those early years found dealers set up on the lawn in front of the house. As the flea market grew, uniform dealer spaces were created. As more dealers came in, more fields were added to create our current design. It remains a treasure chest of deals each week! We arrived at the Hebron Lions Fairgrounds for the 19.
