Good-bye BBQ…hello crawfish! | annedoylebiking
https://annedoylebiking.com/2014/04/25/good-bye-bbq-hello-crawfish
Staying connected from coast to coast! Good-bye BBQ…hello crawfish! April 25, 2014. This week we crossed into our fifth state of the trip. We went to bed full of jambalaya, cornbread, peach cobbler and strawberry shortbread, and woke up to venison sausage, eggs, and toast served with a jelly made from red mayhaw berries. (I have to say, I was quite relieved that the woman in the visitor’s center (where I saw this fabulous quilt) was wrong in her guess that we might be served squirrel stew.). Of course, e...

Staying connected from coast to coast! May 19, 2014. View all 8 comments. I saw these signs a couple of thousand miles ago and couldn’t imagine the end in St. Augustine, Florida. Some days I wished we had found the green “easier” trail, but then we wouldn’t have had half the fun we had! What a glorious day in St. Augustine for the ceremonial dip of the wheels and a celebratory swim in the Atlantic Ocean in delightful 74 degree waters. Craig, Chuck, Francie – THANK YOU! May 12, 2014. America the Beautiful | annedoylebiking

Staying connected from coast to coast! May 12, 2014. This week we biked through Ray Charles’s home town of Greenville, Florida. Ray Charles sang a resounding rendition of America the Beautiful, a perfect backdrop to this week’s route through diverse landscapes in the Florida panhandle. Thankfully, Florida doesn’t permit cyclists on the interstate, so we enjoyed lovely back roads and river crossings, including the beloved Suwannee River. Scenes from the panhandle…. And 60 miles in all directions. Wanderin...

Staying connected from coast to coast! The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow. April 21, 2014. There were plenty of sweets, too. Easter treats, hopes for sunshine, and morning mist over an east Texas bayou. Today is our last full day in Texas. The last few days have offered a host of culinary options and then some. If cows could talk, I’m sure they would recommend the pies, cakes, and root beer over ribs. There is always the unconventional option…. There are great NON meat options in Texas, too! Get every new po...

Staying connected from coast to coast! 8220;Very limited services next 90.5 miles” AND “No services next 55 miles”! April 10, 2014. Not a whole lot between here and there these last two lonely days of cycling in this region of west Texas, and what’s here is often closed, ill-suited for a thirsty cyclist and/or for sale! Not what we had in mind…. Sometimes a church offers exactly the “services” we need: ADVICE! Deep in the heart of Texas…. April 8, 2014. Do I have a deal for you! April 8, 2014. The day af...

Staying connected from coast to coast! No need to worry, Mom! March 31, 2014. View all 3 comments. This sensible advice for the gun-toting camper gives me comfort at the campsites. And we have only cycled past a few (dozen) signs like these…. And the water is perfectly safe…. And, finally, Mom, the bathrooms are clean! 8220;So why are you riding 3,200 miles? 8221; and other FAQs. March 31, 2014. Q Why are you riding 3,200 miles? Because after that you hit water! Q Are there “up hills”? A ARE THERE HILLS?

Staying connected from coast to coast! Thinkin’ of moving to Texas? Lots to offer, but be forewarned! April 17, 2014. Seems that the town’s real estate agent must have helped with this logo for Fort Clark. None of my group decided to stay beyond our one night of camping since the road conditions were so bad, we all thought our teeth might rattle out of our heads! That being said, Texas has a lot to offer: gorgeous sunsets, state parks, canyons, rivers, hill country, and farms. April 17, 2014 at 2:47 pm.

Downhill is not dead!

Cycling adventures and general musings. Ilkley to Stump Cross Cavens. October 19, 2008. Ignored the forecast for heavy rain all day and set off from home to Ilkley in grey drizzle and poor visibility. We were suitably rewarded with a dry breezy autumnal day. A great and varied route with wide open bleak moors and narrow tree lined lanes. Stump Cross Cavens. Is a fab stop for cyclists with bacon butties, soup and amazing cakes on offer. Wind Speed 18.4 mph. Bike to work breakfast. June 19, 2008. To facili...

Two Wheels Across
In early 2013, Christian decided to embark on an epic adventure, consisting of traveling across the African Continent, and into the middle east, on a motorbike. This journey is set to start between the end of Q2 and Q3 2013 and not be a race against the clock, nor a deadline to reach his destination. It will be about taking the time needed to discover the obvious and the less obvious. Don’t forget to follow me! One Man, His Camera, and Two Wheels Across the African Continent! CAPE TOWN to DUBAI. Adventures on Two Wheels
Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Japan Tour Day Two. Tokyo, Shinjyuku Mt Takao. In the morning, I went to Tsukiji Fish Market, but only toured the touristy places. I am more interested in eating fish, not seeing them auctioned! This prawn is still moving when I took the picture. See the long queue at the far end? Outskirts of the fish market. I was wondering where and how I should stay, but in the deepening twilight, I found an abandoned car park on the slope of the mountain. Why not? This river goes along the pe...
