Type 1 Writes – Diabetes Blog. My Story With Type 1 Diabetes. In and Around the DOC of Late II. August 30, 2016. August 30, 2016. I feel I’ve been quiet in the DOC chatter while diligently working on my own blood sugar levels and stalking my glucose meter, so here are a few items that have caught my interest lately. The Blood Sugar Whisperer. Speaking of A1C, being able to look beyond the less than ideal number that I wrote about last week was crucial. This post from Mike at. Steptember. The idea is ...

Type 1 Writes – Diabetes Blog. My Story With Type 1 Diabetes. October 20, 2016. October 20, 2016. I had Pizza for dinner on Sunday night. Coincidentally, it was a meal identical to the one I’d eaten for dinner the Sunday prior. Pizza is one of those foods that I could simply eat and eat and eat, and easily lose count of how many slices I’ve had. Intuition proved right, and I was bordering on hypo territory within an hour of cancelling the bolus. By some strange miracle I managed not to over treat my ...

Type 1 Writes – Diabetes Blog. My Story With Type 1 Diabetes. Diabetes and the Online Community. October 19, 2016. October 19, 2016. As I scrolled through the OzDOC feed on Twitter, it looked like it would be a quiet night. Some of our regular contributors thoughtfully popped in and out to make their apologies. I was fully prepared to take a raincheck on the chat for this week, rather than endure a slow moving chat with few participants. But conversation continued to flow in a more casual format. Bec pop...

Type 1 Writes – Diabetes Blog. My Story With Type 1 Diabetes. To My Dear Friend Mr Hypo. August 6, 2015. December 27, 2015. To My Dear Friend Mr. Hypo,. I’ve been in denial about you. For a very, very long time, I’ve been pretending that you don’t exist. I’ve done a pretty good job of hiding the way you make me feel. In fact, the people around me wouldn’t even know that you are there. I am writing to say that. Are one of my least favourite things about diabetes. Are the reason I swear. Locking you away t...

Type 1 Writes – Diabetes Blog. My Story With Type 1 Diabetes. My Diet (On a “Good” Day). May 15, 2015. January 3, 2016. I’m sorry, I just couldn’t get myself excited about this post. The thought of documenting my day’s food sounded a bit boring. I really needed some inspiration in order to actually get this post up and running. So here goes…. Comments that photo will get. (Then again, I suppose I am seeking some form of attention through this blog – contradictory? Because it has virtually no sugar and th...

My Life: A Long Trip with T1D. Friday, September 19, 2014. Daily Disasters with a Dusting of Diabetes. Much better). In fact, next month I get to chat with one of their Diabetes nurses (who is Type 1 herself) and we will likely be chatting about insulin pumps (see #5). Yay! Especially because I'm trying. I know I need to pre-bolus more (among other things). I know I need to aim lower. (ALSO what this graph does not show is the 52 last week.). In other news. #Allsgood. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). More urgently now, "Marc, get in here NOW and get on a pair of gloves.". NOT what one wants to hear when having blood drawn.). But I didn’t even know if she spoke English. And also I didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable in any way. I saw her again in the restaurant a couple of days later. My Life: A Long Trip with T1D. Wednesday, July 15, 2015. And then the 36 hour airport adventure and all the Googling on skin conditions I did had me convinced that I might have anything from dermatitis to psoriasis to scabies. Yep, I am a hypochondriac. I went to the dentist last week! I rescheduled my endo appointment to the end of October because I can’t face him right now nor can I face my A1C. Not much of a point to this post besides the update – we are working hard on careers as well as contin...

My Life: A Long Trip with T1D. Wednesday, February 12, 2014. What he thinks about my T1D. I've often wondered, "what does my husband feel/think about my T1 diabetes? Here's the thing: When I was dx'd and started treating , I said to him (my husband/then boyfriend.and to myself), "Don't [you dare] treat me any different. I just need to inject insulin now to cover the food I eat." Period. Also, here's this: I always was afraid (being a bit insecure) that the Dexcom (or another medical device) would somehow...

My life, amazing boys, and type 1 diabetes! It has come to my attention that it is not unusual in my house that we all pull together. This is incredibly noticeable with my elder son Meical, aged 8. Since Jac was diagnosed with his Diabetes 21 months ago (I can’t quite believe we are nearly at the 2 year mark….what a lot we have learnt in that time! I often tell him how brilliant he is and I hope he knows it! Enjoying the recent snow. I replied ” You’re a bit high”. I’m tired.”. My gorgeous boys…. Althoug...

Type 1 With Tyler

Saturday, September 3, 2011. Ummm, yeah. I have all but abandoned this blog but I'm here with a refreshed commitment to document and share our anything but boring lives with Type 1! Other than that it was smooth sailing. I even remembered to change his pump right away to California time, having the time just two hours off can create crazy highs or lows since he has several different basal rates over the course of 24 hours. Now that summer is over, it is on to our next adventure- Junior High! We have good...

Diabetes Blog – My Story with Type 1 Diabetes. What The #DOC Means to Me. August 14, 2015. August 13, 2015. I joined in a fantastic conversation the other day, regarding whether involvement in the Diabetes Online Community (DOC) benefits or harms patients. Some recent findings by Dr Michelle Litchman suggested that involvement in the DOC was associated with better glycemic control, self care behaviour and quality of life. You can read more about that on Brian’s blog here. I Don’t Want Anyone To Know.
