Physics 126: December 2009
http://ph126.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Honors Physics II at UA. Tuesday, December 8, 2009. You can skip one problem on the final exam, since it seems to be plenty time-consuming at 7 problems. Which one you skip is up to you, they all carry equal weight. Monday, December 7, 2009. Homework (partial) Amnesty Day. Any late homework you get to me by 5pm this Wednesday. Will be graded at 75% of full points. Last chance. More massive hints to follow on this one later in the week; it is subtle. Next, imagine you're in the middle of the network somew...

Physics 126: August 2011
http://ph126.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Honors Physics II at UA. Monday, August 29, 2011. Today, we'll figure out how to read the state of switches. Sunday, August 28, 2011. HW2 / HW1 solutions. HW2 is out, due this coming Friday. Not Wednesday, as implied by the calendar). HW1 solutions are also out. Saturday, August 27, 2011. HW2 will come out some time. Sunday . due this coming Friday. Friday, August 26, 2011. Notes on electric forces and fields. My notes for the non-calculus class (PH102). Warning, 23Mb PDF file). Friday, we'll be starting...

Physics 126: Notes on EM waves, radiation, etc
http://ph126.blogspot.com/2011/12/notes-on-em-waves-radiation-etc.html
Honors Physics II at UA. Friday, December 2, 2011. Notes on EM waves, radiation, etc. Here are some notes. On radiation, EM waves in conductors and insulators, etc - the stuff we've been covering the last several lectures. They are rather long, and incomplete in places . but they do cover some interesting things I didn't quite get time to go over in lecture. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Contact Dr. LeClair. Physics 126: September 2009
http://ph126.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Honors Physics II at UA. Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Problem 1 HW 5. Take the spacing of the coils d to be the same as their radius R to make things easier. Strictly speaking, this is the Helmholtz arrangement. Also, see here. Some of your problems are here. This will come in handy next week. When we get to the vector potential. For now, it contains the solution to one of your homework problems, albeit using a method we have not discussed yet . still, it may help you set up the problem. See the four-p...

Physics 126: September 2011
http://ph126.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Honors Physics II at UA. Wednesday, September 28, 2011. HW5 / today's lab. Since I have delayed our discussion of magnetism, HW5 is delayed from this Friday (30 Sept) until next Wednesday (5 Oct). In today's lab (and the last part of lecture) we investigated a comparator-based relaxation oscillator. Though we are a little behind where I imagined we would be, we are ahead of where we have. Wednesday, we'll re-hash what we know of transistors and learn how to build a basic amplifier. Which you will actuall...

Modern Physics @ UA: November 2010
http://ph253-255.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Modern Physics @ UA. Tuesday, November 30, 2010. PH253 last lecture: computer logic and memories. It seems flash/ram/etc has won the day, so my last lecture of the semester will be on computer architecture, logic, and memory from a physics-y point of view. Invite your friends ;-). The rough plan will be this:. What is our current high-level computer architecture? How does one make memory/logic? What components are required? How do they work? How do we currently build logic and memory? If you don't like l...

Modern Physics @ UA: PH253 final grades, mark 2
http://ph253-255.blogspot.com/2010/12/ph253-final-grades-mark-2.html
Modern Physics @ UA. Tuesday, December 14, 2010. PH253 final grades, mark 2. After going through the whole spreadsheet and looking at the final exams a third time, I decided to revise upward the partial credit on a couple of questions on the final. This will affect a lot (but not all) of you, depending on whether you chose to do those problems or not, and depending on what exactly you did. For some of you, the change was enough to affect your final grade. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The views, op...

Modern Physics @ UA: March 2010
http://ph253-255.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Modern Physics @ UA. Wednesday, March 31, 2010. PH253: HW9 deadline extended. I feel like this homework set is coming due a bit too quickly, based on what we covered on Tuesday and what I want to do tomorrow. I'd rather you not rush it, and have some time to understand the problems. Therefore: the homework deadline is extended until Tuesday, 6 April at midnight. Spread the word . Copious hints on HW9 below the fold . From this we'll find the pi and sigma orbitals you've probably heard so much about in Ch...
