Freys in the UK

Freys in the UK. Tuesday, 28 January 2014. Welcome back, Blog Fans. I've appreciated the use of this free site to share my adventures with family, friends and an anonymous lurker or two. One thing that is lacking with the site, though, is a nice archive. So, I thought I put together an index post for future reference. It will help me and hopefully others. Note: please feel free to contact me, future RR expats, if you have any questions. Bank Holiday (long weekend) Trips. Conwy, North Wales. Cave Dale, Ma...

Freys in the UK: Bruges & Amsterdam

http://www.ukfrey.blogspot.com/2012/04/bruges-amsterdam.html

Freys in the UK. Sunday, 15 April 2012. Hopefully you enjoy the pictures - I know there are a lot! We had a hybrid transportation scheme for this trip - train in / fly (and bus! The Eurostar was nice but it's not that much different than your plain Jane train (though a little faster). It would be awesome if we didn't have the extra bit to get to London on the front end as it is much nicer than dealing with airport lines. Goal #2: waffles. Helps to not think about the cost (especially in dollars) but ...

Freys in the UK: Northern Ireland

http://www.ukfrey.blogspot.com/2013/08/northern-ireland.html

Freys in the UK. Tuesday, 27 August 2013. Greetings, Blog Fans. I've got a longer than average weekend post because we had a longer than average weekend. This past weekend was the August Bank Holiday weekend and we went off the norm in a number of ways with our trip to Northern Ireland. I didn't think we were going to make it here during our 3-year stay as there are many places in Great Britain that we can reach by car for a long weekend. However, two other ex-pats, the Schetzels. 2011 - N. Wales. Our ho...

Freys in the UK: Edinburgh

http://www.ukfrey.blogspot.com/2011/07/edinburgh.html

Freys in the UK. Sunday, 24 July 2011. We took taxis to/from both train stations (still a novelty). Despite Alex's dour look, both kids enjoyed it. The Edinburgh taxis had a large area where we all 4 could fit (we are facing the kids here). We decided to walk around after checking into our hotel. This is St. Giles Cathedral along the Royal Mile. Some stained glass in St. Giles. Lot's of Scottish Terriers (naturally) running about. This one was hanging out in the front window display. Scottish National Wa...

Freys in the UK: Andalusia, Spain

Freys in the UK. Sunday, 3 November 2013. The area is also known for it good weather (though quite hot in the summer) and nearby Costa del Sol beaches and White Hill towns. However, we stuck to the historical cities for this trip. After checking into our very nice, semi-serviced apartment ( link. A statue of Columbus' contract with Isabella. It's no coincidence that he set off in the same year Granada was reconquered. Riding the wave . . . . Snapped this one on our way back - the happy bride. The last an...

Freys in the UK: Switzerland: a Week in Wengen Hiking the Bernese Oberland

http://www.ukfrey.blogspot.com/2013/07/switzerland-week-in-wengen-hiking.html

Freys in the UK. Sunday, 14 July 2013. Switzerland: a Week in Wengen Hiking the Bernese Oberland. Hello, Blog Fans. We have begrudgingly returned after a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable week in Switzerland. At least we are returning to the first "proper" summer in the UK in 3 years (upper 70s/lower 80s for days at a time). Over our 6 days we hiked 35-40 miles and did so with lazy mornings and evenings (for the most part). The weather cooperated and the views and ambiance were outstanding. The bright s...

A Lifeform In Northern Ireland: August 2012

http://life-in-ni.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, 9 August 2012. Crusaders F.C. 2011/12 A Season to Remember. What an end to last season it was for Crusaders. To put it in as few words as possible, Crusaders FC. Won the Setanta Sports Cup. Only the 2nd Irish League side to do so and what a day it was, as I mentioned when we were looking forward to the two cup finals. After waving our black and red flags and clapping the players off as they picked up their medals, we headed back to Seaview to drown our sorrows. Compared to how I'd woken up with...

A Lifeform In Northern Ireland: November 2012

http://life-in-ni.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, 4 November 2012. A Day Trip to the Armagh Planetarium. With family visiting and the route into Belfast about to turn into a parade for the day, we decided to escape to somewhere quieter. Our solution was to get a Translink Goldline coach to Armagh. The least populated city in Northern Ireland don’t you know! We aimed to have a quick look around the city but our main aim destination was one of my favourite visitor attractions in Northern Ireland – the Armagh Planetarium. In one room there is a scr...

The British Seppanens: July 2013

http://britseps.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Monday, 22 July 2013. Well, where do I begin? You don't think that someone stealing items out of luggage isn't smart enough to do it out of the camera's eye? Oh well, reality had to slap us eventually. Some differences in living in America vs. England. America and everything in it is HUGE! I complained a lot about the food and beer in England for good reason - it tasted horrible. But it did make me think about food in America. Why does it taste so good and why does it stay so long in the fridge? England ...

A Lifeform In Northern Ireland: September 2012

http://life-in-ni.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 25 September 2012. A Ride on the Roosevelt Island Tramway. Time travelling back into our US adventure earlier in the year. On Monday 13th February, we headed from Brooklyn to Roosevelt Island so we could cross back into Manhattan. Roosevelt Island. With the weekly MetroCards we'd bought to get us around the city during our stay, we'd been pleasantly surprised when planning our itinerary to find out that you can also ride the aerial tramway. The downside to it is that it was soon over as it is ju...

A Lifeform In Northern Ireland: February 2013

http://life-in-ni.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Monday, 25 February 2013. February Snapshots of Belfast. Without any topic to string these photos together, here are just some sights of Belfast from over the last few weeks such as the ethereal Titanic Memorial in the grounds of city hall. Some cold but nice dandering on the sunny days. And with plenty of bright red lanterns for the Chinese new year. Some would say cracking. As always, plenty of traffic. The weather wasn't always dry and sunny, but Belfast still has it's charm. I know everyone has a dif...

Wednesday, 26 December 2012. 2012 is almost over? Hang on, what happened to the rest of it, did someone take a bite out of it like those Jaffa Cake adverts with the 'Total eclipse' lady? 8221; OK, OK, it's that time of the year again, time to review my 2012 List. Sweep keep calm and organised. You're in for a treat if you watch from 2mins 45 seconds on the youtube video linked just there), time to look back at what I have and haven't done and check to see if my point still has a pencil. A Lifeform In Northern Ireland: April 2012

http://life-in-ni.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, 26 April 2012. Moved house - check. Re-connected to the interwebs - check. Settled in - ongoing but almost there. Oddly though, as unexpected as events were, I think it's worked out pretty good. We quite like the new place, we've a bit more room and we moved to the area we were hoping for so that we're both close enough to work to not have to have any long commutes. Sunday, 8 April 2012. Moving House - One Piece of Fluff at a Time. And 3 years have passed us by. Friday, 6 April 2012. Somewhere ...

A Lifeform In Northern Ireland: March 2013

http://life-in-ni.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 17 March 2013. 4 years ago I started to write this personal blog and I have to say it has served me well - it's seen a lot of water under the bridge (or flowing over the weir as the case might be in the photo below - I just didn't have anything more appropriate) however now seems like a good time to think about a change to look to the future. As well as sounding like something fun to do, I also had 3 main reasons for blogging. To be more specific, the content could be categorised as follows:.

A Lifeform In Northern Ireland: July 2012

http://life-in-ni.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 24 July 2012. Just Days until the Olympics. On Friday, the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony will be in full swing. Which means, it's time for me to choose a sport or two so that in a months time I can tick off one of the items from my 2012 List - to follow an Olympic 2012 sport. Über religiously. a sport that I honestly don't care about right now. My current understanding of synchronised swimming. I'm soon going to find out and the Olympics coverage is going to be my guide of sorts.
