Since I began the research into my Dad’s war service, several of the old warriors who helped me piece together the story of his units have been on their ‘last parade’. This year probably saw the last great celebration of the D Day landings, and very soon the Second World War will pass into history alone and out of living memory, as the Boer War and the Great War has done.
