Salt Marsh Sketches (current project) About and to Contact. The salt marsh is an area of coastal grassland regularly flooded by the incoming tide. The low lying land gets flooded twice a day but it takes a high spring tide to cover the entire marsh. My local salt marshes also have another great attraction - they are close to Royal Portbury Dock so I see wonderful wildlife against an exciting backdrop of shipping. Salt Marsh sketches (current project). About and to contact. I have painted for as long as I can remember, a passion which never fades and is fed by my love of the coast and countryside. I now spend many happy hours watching shore line birds on the mudflats of the Severn Estuary (the "top" end of the Bristol Channel). Currently working on a project to sketch, paint and observe the unique habitat of the salt marsh - you can see my initial working sketches on my salt marsh sketch blog.

Evern Sea Artists Home (about the SSA). Not for me still waters, it is the ebb and flow of the tide which excites. As the waters ebb the food rich mud is exposed and the wading birds can feed. As the tide turns the birds move shore wards foraging at the waters edge. The best time to watch and sketch is during a full moon when the tide is at its highest and the wading birds are pushed up close to the shoreline.

My love of coastal wildlife began many years ago when I worked on an inshore fishing boat, first in the Bristol Channel and then the English Channel.
