Collecting the Kit
http://megablade.org.uk/collecting.php
The next project . The big day's finally arrived! Spent quite a while sorting out the garage to clear space to not only keep the kit in there but have enough room to work around it. And keep the Evo in there. And get the lawn mower in and out . Still haven't rebuilt the top end of the engine, just haven't had time over the last couple of weeks. Got to Kingswinford just before lunchtime without any hassles, offered coffee etc. Nice XTR2 racer parked up outside. It wasn't really terrible heavy and the four...

Assembling the Rolling Chassis [2]
http://megablade.org.uk/chassis2.php
Assembling the Rolling Chassis. The next project . Got back from Lanzarote at about 2am, so I couldn't get started in the garage till 8am. Stacks of email to get through, and while I've been away I've rewritten the build site so I get that uploaded. The steering rack had arrived while I was away along with some screws for mounting the seats to their bases. But no b* * y propshaft bolts. Nip up to my local fastener suppliers for a few bolts, washers etc along with some decent threadlock. While looking at ...

Assembling the Body
http://megablade.org.uk/body.php
The next project . First job was to get the main bodywork section down form where it's been hanging from the ceiling in the garage. My helpers stayed at their grandparents' overnight so I'm on my own for now. Finally managed it without breaking it. Fitting the exterior panels takes a while as there are quite a lot of holes to drill and rivet and after breaking my last remaining 4mm drill I need to nip up to B&Q for another. Then when I break that I nip back again. The scuttle is the next bit to go on, an...

Assembling the Rolling Chassis
http://megablade.org.uk/chassis.php
Assembling the Rolling Chassis. The next project . Carried the chassis into the garage which had been even more extensively tidied than for the engine rebuild! Need room for 2 cars in there now, along with bikes, mowers, rotavator etc. The chassis is supported by wooden trestles I made when we built the house - well over-engineered! The main body panel is still taped to the chassis, and the brown packaging tape leaves most of its adhesive on the gelcoat! I nipped to the tool shop in town near work at lun...

D Day!
http://megablade.org.uk/dday.php
The next project . Today was the day I was hoping to hear my baby splutter into life. When I'd collected the engine I'd been tempted to try getting it going, but decided against it as I was planning to strip it all down anyway. There were times when I'd looked at all the bits lying on the garage bench and wondered if it would work if/when I got it back together again. A quick check told me there were no oil or coolant leaks. By 930 I was able to take the completed dash out and fit it to the car. Conn...

Llandow Circuit, 8th March 2003. The car performed great all day, never missed a beat. With the small steering wheel I've got it was hard work though and my hands and forearms were quite sore the next day or two! Cadwell Park, 28th March 2003. Long long way to Cadwell but it's got to be done! Had a great day soci...

Finishing Off
http://megablade.org.uk/finishing.php
The next project . Now I've got a functioning car I need to get on with the finishing off. I'm well aware that there are loads of fiddly bits which take ages, and it can get frustrating when the rate of change seems to slow down. Having said that I really feel I'm getting there, and can't see it taking more than a couple more weeks. Instructions, and with missing parts, but when you've got both it's impossible! On next to the instruments. I'd also installed the headlamp and fog lamp switches upside d...

The next project . Shift lights and gear indicator. Shift Lights and Gear Indicator. For a couple of months now I've had a DataTool RevLight and DiGi sitting on my garage bench. Both are supplied by DataTool. And although I'd seen them mentioned in the Yahoo BEC Group. Anyway, fabulous run, the car is awesome. Only detractors are the Digi flashing random numbers at me and some clutch slip . more of that later! Update - July 2003. One suggestion is a Barnett clutch kit from Bike Torque. The bolts had shea...

SVA Day
http://megablade.org.uk/sva.php
The next project . Surprisingly managed to sleep till my alarm went off at 5am. Cup of tea, read a few emails etc. then make sure I've got all my stuff ready - engine receipt plus Haynes manual to prove age of engine for emissions test, insurance cover note, Westfield receipt showing that it's an LSD etc. Pack a flask and some spare clothes in case I get soaked on the way there. Nip out to the garage and it's freezing - cold easterly wind and it's started raining. Oh well, nowt I can do about it. Through...
