Our research is devoted to ultrafast and nonlinear optics. In paticular, we have several ongoing programs in nonlinear imaging and spectroscopy (e.g., coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy and holography), nano-femto optics (e.g., nonlinear nanoprobe), supercontinuum generation and its applications (e.g., supercontinuum optical tweezers), and applied optical devices (e.g., compact optical spectrometer).

Supercontinuum Generation @ PSU

The Ultrafast and Nonlinear Optics Lab at Penn State. Some observed far-field patterns of the supercontinuum generated in an imaging fiber taper (model 25970MU, Schott). These pictures were captured at a few centimeters away from the taper output end. Similar supercontinuum pattern can sometimes exhibit dramatically different colors [2]. Chromatic Confocal Imaging @ PSU

The Ultrafast and Nonlinear Optics Lab at Penn State. We have demonstrated a novel chromatic confocal microscope system using supercontinuum white light generated from a photonic crystal fiber. The chromatic aberration of a pair of singlet lenses is employed to focus the different spectral components of the supercontinuum at different depth levels.
