News and observations regarding alumni magazines. Tagged: v.s. naipaul. July 1, 2015. The novelist V.S. Naipaul’s rules for beginning writers, worth a look by non-beginners and editors:. Do not write long sentences. A sentence should not have more than 10 or 12 words. Each sentence should make a clear statement. It should add to the statement that went before. A good paragraph is a series of clear, linked statements. Avoid the abstract. Always go for the concrete. As advice, you could do worse.

News and observations regarding alumni magazines. May 2, 2016. Today’s university magazine nerdistry. Don’t ask me to explain why I did it, but I recently surveyed my alumni magazine library and called the roll for perfect-bound magazines that appear to employ school colors on their spines.
