Una Glennon, teacher and author, was born in Ireland. After her marriage she moved to Zambia where her two daughters were born. Subsequently she and her family moved to Perth, Western Australia. The murder of her daughter Ciara in 1997 was a defining moment in Una’s life, which forced her to confront the issues of suffering, loss and the fragility of life. Una still lives in Perth with her husband Denis and devotes much of her time to speaking on loss as an entry to personal growth.

It is a superb piece of writing free from cliché or sentimentality, emotionally honest, and struggling to articulate the overwhelming pain of dealing with the loss SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. This book is a meditation on loss, at times gentle, at times agonizingly raw. It speaks wisely, simply and with dignity of the human desire to find a meaning in life, the endlessness of grief, the endurance of faith and the paradoxical inseparability of joy and sorrow. SECOND DEATH p.76. The image of Ciara is beginning to fade. It is distant, blurred, out of focus now. I strain to bring it forward, to sharpen the focus. But it remains at a fixed distance, moving backwards at exactly the same rate as I move forward. Occasionally I manage to conjure up a vivid image of her, only to be disappointed by the realisation that it is an image of a photograph I have of her. Welcome to the website of Una Glennon, author of Ciara’s Gift. Was born out of my journey through grief following the murder of our twenty-seven year old daughter, Ciara, in 1997. This is the book I would never have wished to write but felt compelled to write in the hope that it may bring comfort and hope to those who are grieving following any life-shattering loss. Thus, we emerge from suffering with increased capacity to live each day in peace and gratitude for the tremendous gift that life is.
