The School was founded by Mrs Denise Welden in 1981 at St James Anglican Church Hall. It started out as a "Playschool" for farm children to come on Mondays and Fridays, but town children joined as well, namely Janine Sullivan and Alfred Thornton. A monthly fee of R20 was charged. In 1991 Mrs Sue Olivier came onboard and became teacher in charge in 1994, and is still with us today. We have 95 enrolled children, 4 teachers, a cleaner, gardener and secretary. Ages range from 3 years onwards to Grade R.

We would like to refer to the enrolment procedure for your child to be accepted at Union Pre-School. Union Preparatory School is only able to accept a limited number of Grade 1 pupils due to the size of their facilities and their human resources. Therefore there will be a selection process and school readiness test when you apply for your child in Grade 1. Accepted. We would like to request that you submit your application by 15 September. Guide for prospective parents. By 1963, the school had over 600 pupils enrolled. Land was bought in Plasket Street and the building of a prep school began in 1965. It was opened in 1967, remaining under the control of Union High School headmaster and committee. In 1970, Union Prep became independent from the high school. Today, Union Prep School offers classes from Grades 1 4 and is led by Ms Leona Rich. Union High School, led by Mr William Pringle, offers classes from Grades 5 12. Miss E.H. Daly.

Arthur Kingwill House accommodates the boys from Grade 5-Gr12 and Herby Arnott House is home to the girls of the same grades.
