I hit the family archive mother load on Sunday. My aunt dug an old photo album out of a drawer at my grandmother's old house (no one lives there now, but we gathered there for Easter dinner for old times' sake). As I've written about before. My aunt says the picture below is of Hot Springs; I choose to believe her.

In which a young woman from the seashore notes that a cat may look at a king. Wednesday, January 09, 2008. Matthew Ferrara, 1983-2007. Photos from Marcus Ferrara). A friend of my family was killed in Afghanistan on Friday, November 9. If you follow the war news, you might have seen reports. On that incident in particular, since nine soldiers including Matt were killed in that ambush, as they returned from a meeting in a mountain village, and about 19 more were wounded. Matt was the platoon leader. Obviou...

Cut the telephone line, the storys the same. Dec 3rd, 2008. This thing doesn't have a name yet, and it needs one by tomorrow (when it gets documented for the juried show catalogue). Somehow naming a painting feels a little like grading students' portfolios. Anyway, after.how many months? Mostly, it's just a relief! I'm proud, and happy, but mostly just eager to get started on something else.something else that won't take quite so long. 3 comments Leave a comment. Dec 4th, 2008 01:07 am (UTC). It's really...

Cut the telephone line, the storys the same. Oct 17th, 2008. Ugh, I have a worry that will be of no interest to anyone. I've got the weekend to finish painting the violin (heh); Oil paint goes on, and gold leaf goes on. So yesterday I put some very thin paint down where the leaf will stick. But on my new test strips.the leaf isn't sticking! I know at this stage it's because the paint is still too wet, but how long will it take to get dry enough? And what if drying slowly is not the ONLY problem?

Cut the telephone line, the storys the same. Oct 19th, 2008. Okay, leaf stuck last night, mostly. The back looks fine, the ribs are not great because they were wetter, but I can live with that. Painting can begin, and breathing, too. We may just finish this thing some day. 4 comments Leave a comment. Oct 19th, 2008 11:53 pm (UTC). I've done enough leaf in my time, but no real oil paint work. Oct 21st, 2008 05:10 am (UTC). Thanks for the invite though. Oct 20th, 2008 06:54 am (UTC).
