Unst is the most northerly island in Shetland and the U.K. Located nearer to the Arctic Circle than to London, the nearest city to Unst is Bergen, Norway. Unst is a unique island in terms of it's culture, history, geology, and archaeology. With two National Nature Reserves (Hermaness and Keen of Hamar). Unst's stunning landscape is home to over 25,000 pairs of puffins, over 100,000 breeding seabirds and an abundance of Shetland ponies. It is also the ideal place to spot otters, seals and rare plants!

RAF Saxa Vord Exhibition. RAF and Memories of Saxa Vord Exhibition. Up until the closure of the base in 2006, Unst was the home to the most northerly UK RAF station, RAF Saxa Vord. The role of the base was to provide an early warning of air threats to the UK. As a frontline station during the Cold War the unit controlled fighters to intercept Soviet bomber aircraft on practise bombing and missile runs against the UK. Entrance to the exhibition is free of charge.
