Urban Homestead Diaries

Tuesday, August 23, 2011. Eggs, Eggs and More Eggs! The girls are all finally laying now, so we have eggs coming out our ears, but we seem to have no problem eating them all at this point. They're laying 4-5 per day now and many of them are double yolkers. The two on the far right, both top and bottom, in the picture below are double yolks. I wonder if they hurt a bit coming out? We had issues with the chickens eating their eggs at first, yikes! How are the eggs going over on your homestead? They come in...

Urban Homestead Diaries: The Story of a Housewife That Started an Epic Facebook Page

http://urbanhomesteaddiaries.blogspot.com/2011/03/story-of-housewife-that-started-epic.html

Friday, March 11, 2011. The Story of a Housewife That Started an Epic Facebook Page. Three weeks ago yesterday I started the facebook page Take Back Urban Home-steading(s). That day as I went through my usual facebook routine I came across a post by the Dervaes family which read, "We're getting death threats now." I quickly went to their page to investigate what was going on. People were asking questions left and right, and no answers were being given. Then Deanna Duke of The Crunchy Chicken. And people ...

Urban Homestead Diaries: May 2011

http://urbanhomesteaddiaries.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Lately our "hen" Ophelia has been exhibiting some suspiciously rooster like qualities. I noticed the past few weeks that "she" has been becoming more and more aggressive. She's always been the dominant chicken of the bunch, but it seems that she is now becoming a major bully chicken! So what is your vote: Hen or Rooster? I'll keep you posted. Apparently Buff Orpingtons crow at around 20 weeks old, so we have a while to go. Ophelia at 12 weeks, (left.). Monday, May 23, 2011. On team...

Urban Homestead Diaries: Welcome to the homestead!

http://urbanhomesteaddiaries.blogspot.com/2011/02/welcome-to-homestead.html

Thursday, February 17, 2011. Welcome to the homestead! I've been meaning to start this blog for quite some time, but recent events have pushed my publish date up quite a bit. Here is the story of how this little spot of earth became our urban homestead:. Thus far we have 11 raised beds, a greenhouse, a rockin compost, 3 apple trees, 1 fig tree, a bunny hutch, blueberries, raspberries, and an almost completed chicken coop! The message we're sending out is loud and clear: You cannot trade mark the words th...

Plain Simple True: July 2010

http://plainsimpletrue.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Complicated person in constant pursuit of simplicity. Stories, rants and photos about a journey towards the simple life. Wednesday, July 21, 2010. So my latest philosophical rant: our current economic crisis. So many people are stunned and disbelief that something so tragic can occur. Maybe I should create a t-shirt with a stick figure knocking their head against the wall and the statement Life is Hard. Complicated person in constant pursuit of simplicity. Stories, rants and photos about a journey towards the simple life. Tuesday, February 21, 2012. Until further notice, this blog is on hiatus. Probably until about June. I am sorry that I didn't post sooner. As many of you already guess and expected, I spread myself too thin. Graduate school, pregnancy and work are not a good combination for creating engaging blog posts and actually posting them! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). 6 Don't think, do!
