COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF ARTS AND SCIENCE. The main activity of the Center will be research, with roughly one half of the effort devoted to economics and the other half to foreign policy questions. Obviously, these two areas overlap as well, so there may be years in which the Center changes the mix of its programs. The expectation is that most of the research will be conducted through commissioned papers which will appear in either journals or edited volumes.

The Center intends to fund two broad areas of research: analysis of China’s capital markets and exploration of the interaction between the U.S. and China in third regions. The regions to be explored initially will be: Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. The agenda for the February 12 conference on Central Asia (under past events) will provide the reader with an overview of the topics being pursued.
